piston distruction

CRACK EXPERT

Or was that Crack, EXPERT ):h

Has quite a ring to that title eh ):h

The tip most picture with the crack at the register cut is a death knell for this block.

As long as any cracks are pretty well centered in the outer bolt hole and they dont go below the bottom of the hole (Block inverted with caps up)
then the Lock and Stitch inserts will fix them fine.

With the crack out at the register there is nothing that can be done.

The chunk missing from the cylinder skirt is also ugly.

Sorry for the bad news but this critter is beyond hope as far as any realistic repair.

Thats it in a nut shell.

How much is the 'rebuild' going to cost you in parts? I assume time is 'free'. (Not that sitting on the couch with a beer is something better to do with your time.)

Now take the cost of the rebuild minus the cost of a good replacement block.

Is it worth risking these parts cost if the weld fails? Plus a tow etc.

It would be more fun to drop in a Duramax or other engine if you want to get crazy. ):h

iv always wanted to see what a 3208 cat would be like in between the frame rails

you are dealing with some pretty cheap cast iron that does not weld well.
you would need to slow heat the block to about 600 degrees then try o weld it must slow cool or it will crack on you.
