Picked up a 6.2 last night...

I have to choose between 3 diesels when ordering parts on 1993: 6.2 NA, 6.5 NA, 6.5 Turbo (High Output). :D

That 6.2 will have a 1 piece rear main seal. Nice engine if 130K of hard work didn't crack it up.

It appears to be in real good running condition, what little I've driven it. I ought to have the engine pulled out by this evening. My plans are to find a 96-98 tahoe to put this setup in. Need to find a good hydroboost setup to run for the brakes. I'll probably replace the head gaskets with felpro and have the injectors tested while its out. Replace the glow plugs with bosch and a new controller. The IP seems to be operating without any issues.

Can a serpentine belt setup be swaped onto a 6.2 without any issues? Will the waterpump interchange and the dual thermostat waterneck as well? That would be ideal for better cooling and take advantage of the improved serpentine belt system.

Being that this truck has hydroboost i'll be able to reuse the power steering pump, but i'll have to get a new booster and master cylinder for the tahoe. I'd also have to get a new steering box made to handle the high psi correct? But the hydroboost ought to bolt up in place of the factory vacuum booster without any issues i'd think.

You will need to replace the backing plate for the water pump if you go with a serp belt system as all the holes are different between rotation versions. This is part of the timing cover and has a thrust button stop for the camshaft.

I have swapped 1993 and 1995 6.5 serp belt stuff on 6.2 engines. No issues. I suggest you find a junkyard for a serp belt 6.5 engine and buy the brackets, PS pump, etc.

The gotcha will be the year Tahoe you buy for the swap as the early AC systems had the sh*tty pancake compressor on the passenger side that tends to blow the body orings out (leak) with R134a as it was a R12 design. So get your serpintine brackets off a similar year and similar side AC compressor as the vehicle it is going into. The newer compressors are 10X better and are somewhat special to the system they go in - Driver side mounted and longer body units.
