Phazer timing gears kit

I had a set on my 1994 Suburban. After 93k miles it still fired up like the day the engine was built. I intend to see if I can get some for my 7.3 Power Stroke.

ETA: Actually, just did a little reading and it looks like I already have gears!

Thanks Leo I actually understood that! I believe I need some input from folks who have one cause the info sure sounds like all one legged cowboys GOTTA GET ONE OF THOSE!!!!

See I knew my non turbo old girl was a cheap, err value conscious date! LOL Hmmm that goes on my list, near the bottom LOL but on the list for sure. What u think AK? Wonder if having perfect timing would increase my MPG, I already get such great mileage that I am about willing to call myself a liar!

Its something I would really like, but dont know that its worth $500+, when the chains do last even if with a little slop. Its kind of like getting a Fluidampr, hard to tell how much it is worth, but a lot of people say they would never buy an OEM balancer again.

You know, the Equinox we bought a month ago actually has twin camshaft phaser system that allows it independent variable valve timing on the inake and exhaust. Its an 11.4:1 Compression Ratio 2.4L inline four cylinder with 2000psi direct injection. Not sure on the reliability of this system yet, but what an interesting little engine. And I cannot believe they allow 87 octane gas!

I wish there was an affordable inline six cylinder turbo vehicle.

Hey Buddy if I am figuring this right mine would be 419 minus 130= err ran out of fingers LOL $289 Off subject but Buddy will u read my thread on Glow plug LP mods and fuel pressure at starting and give me ur opinion, thanks. That sounds better than 500. How much is a timing chain and do u replace the gears when u replace the timing chain? Always did on my lil Cutlass cause they said I had to but that was a fiber gear I think....

Wonder how it will do on E-85 Buddy? All the stations here in NC are putting the pumps in with it now. I dont think I can run it in my 2001 Mustang? And oh brother what am I gonna do when it gets to where I cant get reg gas with no gasohol in it to use for my wvo blend?

No, it's $416 without and $544 with

The gear drive is 5 times the cost of a cloyes chain and sprockets. Ask yourself if it's worth it. 2 chains will last the life of the engine. Much better bang for the buck out there. Just my $.02.

I'm one of the few that don't like the gear drive. I bought one several years ago and installed it on our Suburban. IMO, its poorly made. The installation is very fiddly, requiring grinding off the idler shafts for the proper fit, which is not very well defined. The cam gear did not fit, I'm told you are supposed to beat it on, but that is not something I prefer to do with my cams. Seems a good way to knock the cam button out of the back of the block. After I got it installed, it sounded like a rock crusher. I didn't really notice any performance difference to the chain. I ran it for about 500 miles and then went back to a chain. On my current AMG engine, I went with a chain as well. I know some seem to like the gear drives, but I favor the chain. FWIW, Bill Heath recommends a timing chain as well.

Ok thats too much I only paid $1300 for the truck.

:skep: So?

$1500 for the truck or suburban. $8,000 in parts later on each of them give or take...

I own them, they have lower mile engines now, and I know every nut and bolt on them. A $500.00 option and after spending this kind of money is an expensive option.

Get used to it quick or get something else as a cheap truck tends to be a black hole for parts!

The chains require timing adjustments however I have not seen any MPG or power difference with old stretched to near reject spec or new guitar twang tight chains.

The chain with it's stretch is not the right tool for the job. However, it passes bean counter approval at GM for working barley well enough. IE past warranty. Most chains while stretched are lasting the life of the engine or fairly close on the ones that go past 200K.
