P400 heads for sale. $1200 + freight.

From what I was told, and from what I see in mine, these are new castings, same casting #... as in a new mold was used.. no seams, flash, the runners are not shifted, a very clean casting... the difference is in the seats... nothing else changed as for measurements go...

I would think there would be different part numbers as everyone would know what was needed for any given motor... and the same for ordering them from whoever, to keep from just sending out whatever was in the boxes at the factory....

Be interesting to see what they say, kinda makes ya wonder what is really in the other boxes doesn't it....

Looks like ya'll nailed it. In talking to AMG today and another source. These look to be Optimizer heads and also have the Navistar logo. NA precups.
Has same casting # as the P400 head but with induction hardened seats.

I'll start a new thread on these tomorrow with correct info.

Weight? I thought about you today and was just about to go get the scale then got distracted and forgot. Will do tomorrow. I have a p400 head I'll weigh for you. Sorry took so long.

The P400 gets a separate hardened seat. These heads were induction hardened. Chris may be able to answer if there is extra material at the seats. I don't know.

AK, I have cut several heads apart but not one of these new heads, I can't justify the cost just to cut it up.... I do know the casting is much cleaner than my 06 gep was.... If I could get my hands on one I would see if the inside was changed any...

Your pics of the cut up heads is why I am asking Chris

Ak, I haven't cut up a late GEP head yet, I'm sure new molds were used for the heads I have in hand, my other was a 06 gep motor, I can say the castings I have here are a much better quality.. how they look inside is unknown, until I can get a newer head to cut we are only guessing....

If anyone wants to donate a late model head send it on, I'll cut it up and we will all see.....

Maybe contact AMG to see if they have one that had issues to cut up?

I have one of mine on the milling machine now, if I make a mistake I'll have one then, just don't want it that way..LOL

I asked Leroy a while back if he could get a bare head from his contact but he couldn't get one... I could get a single head from Teds but they want to rape me for just one....

I just got one in that may be a good candidate to cut up. I can cut a section off of it and send it to Chris to take a look at it.

To know for sure it would / should be a head with both seats. I would need half the head to be able to make cuts in the needed places.. I just don't see making the motor what it is and not change known problem areas above the deck, I believe they are thicker where needed... after all, this motor wasn't designed for a meer truck...

OH! weighed the p400 head and its 68#.
Did it on a bathroom scale so + or - a pound.
