Optic Sensor Fail > New IP

Theres HUNDREDS of them in use out there on trucks right now. That quote had to deal with problems on 07.5+ trucks needing the MDI for most things.

OK Thanks Ferm.

Conestoga said that virtually all DS4 IPs fail electronically. Opitic sensor ring breaking is pretty common. Optic sensor failing is also a leading cause of IP failures. They ain't failing because I sufficiently hardened parts.

Actually quite a few have failed because of insufficiently hardened parts. Alot of those early failures on cheap remans are from parts not designed for ULSD fuel. The pumps that die from old age are normally electrical failure. And of all the posts I've seen on pump failures, I can count on one hand how many I've seen that had the ring fail.

good read here fellas,, Mine is starting to start hard when really hot out. Runs like a champ still. but on 90F day's it'll heat soak in an hr or so,,, then roll over 2 times longer than normal. Haven't had to try the water trick,,,,yet. My local shop that reman's and is standyne shop,, has one on the shelf $1,025.00. I see them on Fleabay, for $500. wouldn't want to go thru all that work for a crappy rebuild, that don't last.

On my last test drive before shutting it down, it got rough and threw code as the engine t-stat opened. It got real rough. I was two neighborhood blocks from home. Got it home and shut it down in the backyard. When I went to restart the following weekend, would not start. Sometimes a little catch. Checked the codes and it only had P0251 which is the optic sensor reading. Then I knew I had to pull it apart. You now see what I found.

I ordered the reman from Conestoga. Leroy and others answered too late here. I also ordered the CKO GM Tech 2 based on Fermanator's input here. Leroy never came back with requested input on autoenginuity and I'd have to buy another laptop for that. Waiting for stuff to arrive. We'll see how it goes.

Finally, we're running the red dye boat dies in my son' so '94 Suburban after running it twice through Mr. Funnel Filter. No problems so far.
