The old man totalled his 97 k1500 4x4 6.5.

Hit a deer on the way home from work.

Good news is that he replaced it this morning with an 06 DMAX

When I "totalled " my '67, I bought it back from the insurance co. for $90. (they gave me $900 for it). I had had offers of $4000 for it at that time. Put a fender, grille, and headlight assembly for $75. Still have it, and it's great.

Uninjured....airbag didn't deploy though...weird...

DMAX is not deer proof...but we are moving in to newer vehicles which feels pretty damn good...

Wait till you get running water and electricity up there!

J/K Chris. They are nice trucks for sure....

To be fair, when problems arise, please come back to the ol' 6.5 section and tell us about it and how much it cost to fix. Thanks.

Same thing happended when I hit one with the wife's Pilot. I think it has to do with the sudden impact being so quick and not hitting the brakes.. In other words the deer jumped out so fast I hit it without ever putting my foot on the brake.

It's mighty tempting to take the pluge these days. GM is offering 72 months at 0%. I mean seriuosly if you need a new truck now is the time to do it. rumors flying around now that Fix It Again Tommorow Fiat took over Chrysler they are going to part ways with Cummins and Ford hasn't been able to get a reliable diesel since the 7.3 stroke so if GM is smart and keeps the Dmax relaitively the same, we got a winner for sure.

last winter a local municipal plow truck hit a deer with the big hooked blade on the duece and a half. The deer flew up and around the big blade, landed in a field, got up and ran off.

End of story.

Deer are weird; like large rats. Hit one in the Texas hill country in my firebird formula 400, clipped his legs, landed on the windshield, almost came in through the glass. This one didn't run off; ended up strapped on the hood of a Blazer, a local had a new supply of meat.
I've seen deer take horrible hits, run away, then after tracking them down, they had died from internal bleeding.
Moose are the worst IMO.

Perhaps the airbags don't go off becuase they aren't solid. They have a lot of give. They do alot of damage, but I don't think they effect the inertia enough to trip the sensors. Gotta pick n choose the meat though, don't want the bloody parts........

I would love a new GM diesel..... But the times of the year when I'm slow, the payment is there... at least with this ol' bone, it doesn't break when I'm not driving it.

I knew a guy thay hit a moose with an El Camino at 55 mph. He showed me his car there was 2 places on the front bumper where the front and rear legs hit. Left a little fur in the impact strip. A very minor crease in the hood and that was it. He hit it square as could be broadside flipped the legs out from under it. As it was rolling it creased the hood flipped over the cab landed in the bed and continued rolling out of the bed got up and ran off. If I hadn't seen his car I wouldn't have believed it.

You believe that 0% crap?
Its all calculated in in the purchase price

I allmost hit a deer last fall, just got stopped a few feet shy of it. stupid bambi decided to headbutt the truck anyway before she ran off, broke the corner lens and cracked the grill.
