Greetings all,
Back from working night shifts and thanks to all of you I solved the problem with the short glow plug run time. It is amazing what a loose connection will or won't do!):h Now I have a much bigger problem:mad2: About two weeks ago I was just cruising down the road at around 35 MPH when the truck suddenly surged and the SES came on and stayed on. Got home, shut it down, restarted, and no SES light (checked with my GM tech 1 scanner and no history of codes:confused:) and it ran fine for a moment then started surging like crazy, then stopped. Over the next two weeks the problem has gotten worse and now the truck won't start at all!!! Have checked/troubleshoot everything I can think of (see sheet below). I have filled out the diagnostics sheet with everything that has been done to the truck as well as what has been checked. I'm stumped guys, I think my rebuilt IP is toast with around 1500 miles, but before I remove and send back I would like to get the panel of experts involved:thumbsup:

1995 Silverado 4X4 one ton dually, Marine injectors, turbo boost controller, 4" exhaust, cold air intake, #9 resistor, Heath HPT chip, Duramax fan w/HD fan clutch, 130 gpm water pump w/180 thermostat, Mag-Hytec trans & diff pans, pyrometer, trans temp & boost gauge (running 14 psi max boost). Pullin a 98 Alfa Ideal w/two slides (10,000 +lbs.) and the beast does'nt complain!

Problem: Explain your problem in concise language (ie: Cranks but won’t fire). __Cruising @ 35mph truck surged, check engine light came on. Turbine Doc, the PMD was under the hood for a short period of time attached to SS Diesels heatsink. Bill at Health Diesel told me to get it out of the engine compartment completely, so it is now behind the bumper attached to the heatsink. I replaced it with new PMD (Ditech) that I got with the rebuilt IP just to make sure this was not the problem and within thirty seconds of starting, the engine starting surging again this time worse than ever, i.e. not just reving/surging up than down, but multiple revs/surges then settle down only to start the multiple revs/surges again.

The LP can be powered by either putting 12v to pin G of the ALDL connector or by placing the trans shifter in any gear and turning the ign. to start.
I would also pull the ecm fuse under the hood and shine the spades up, if it has a bad connection it won't start.

If you have a spare PMD I would plug it in and try it.

I am suspect of the PMD. Normal failure is stalling and or stall and no start.

Some times they will cause a runaway and can also do what your seeing.

It could be the reman IP but try the PMD first.

Another issue that is commonly overlooked FUEL FILTER and or air in the system. surging can be caused by air in the fuel and also cause stalling.

Lift pump not working will do it but generally not at idle but will cause poor power.

Thanks all of you, Missy good wrench I thought about the filter as well and replaced with a new one just in case. When I pulled the filter it was pretty clean (less than 2,000 miles) but I changed it anyway & purged the system, still surging. I'll check all of the other areas mentioned by all of you and check out the post you mentioned Turbine doc. Would a plugged filter sock cause this surging? Should I disconnect the feed pump and blow some air into the tank? Not having much experience with these engines, is it common for IP failure with new/rebuilt units after only 1,500 miles?
