Where are the identification numbers for the important parts? There's a listing of the part numbers, but there is nowhere (that I can find) that lists where these numbers are located on the part.
For instance the gm-8 turbo. How would I know? "You've got an F code manifold." Really, how do I tell? "Those 599's are the best." Maybe I got one, who knows?!

These types of things.

The part number locations I would like are the turbo, the IP, the engine and/or manifold code. The water pump I found the good write-up about the HO.

Are there more that I'm missing? Thanks for providing this forum. If you read my intro, you'll see why!

Turbo # will be on a tag riveted to the turbo

IP # is on the top of the IP between it and the manifold...may need a dentist mirror to get a good look at it...

Engine code is the 8th digit of your VIN.

Most HO pumps have 'HO' stamped on them...at least the handful I installed in the past did....

The engine code in the VIN tells you the emissions equipment. So if it is an F in the VIN, you have the "F" manifold. This also called RPO L65, which does not have an EGR (in most cases) and has GM's largest precombustion chamber openings.

The block number, like 599, 929, 141, 506 ect... is in the valley in large dotted numbers, or there is a spot where the bellhousing bolts up behind the flywheel/flexplate and in another spot that has been mentioned in other threads.

EGR valve may be hidden by the "Turbo Power dress up cover" if still installed, easiest S identity "tell-tale" other than the VIN are the 3 solenoids vs 1 over the rear driver side valve cover the F or non EGR trucks have,

That said there are also some F's out there with EGR on trucks sold in locations with tough emission reqs, like CA some Canadian provinces as far as I know all 1500 series with exception of some burbs were all EGR equipped, 2500s may or may not have been EGRd depending on it detined point of sale, and 3500s were non EGR.
