Oil sample report

May 2011 I did an oil sample on my truck. Lead was in the green at 5. In Nov. 2011 it was 18. I finall sent in my oil from Feb. 2012 and now it is in the yellow at 29. What would cause lead to be high besides a bearing. Kind of making me nervous now. I didn't think anything of it when I had the 18 the time before since it was still green. What do you think?
 
Oh yeah, and my Dad's Powerstroke came back high on Boron. It was 416 and my boron on the GMC was 10. Where is Boron coming from?

Lead: Lead is a soft, sacrificial wear metal used on surfaces such as bearings. Lead based Babbitt alloys. Commonly found in main crankshaft journal bearings and contaminated fuels. Other sources include leaded fuels and gasoline octane improvers.

Boron: Used as a corrosion inhibiter, anti-wear and anti-oxidant additive. Concentration levels vary greatly depending on oil brand.

How many miles on each sample and how long in the engines? Same oil? Scan and post the entire report if you can as other metals trending also tell the story. Lead can be from corrosion during extended drain intervals. Could be dirt scratching a bearing.

Boron could be antifreeze. Is he checking and treating the PSA's on the Ford cooling system? Did the oil brand change or have a new improved additive package that may be the source?

HEH HEH SNORT! :rof: A oil sample on a 6.5 without something in the yellow... Worry when it is in the red as this means you will be doing something for engine repair soon. Otherwise they are a good trend.

So on my 6.5 I had 4000 miles, 144,000 on the engine, but I have a remote by-pass system with an amsoil 2 micron filter. First time lead was 5, second analysis it was 16, and this time it was 29. I will try an scan it tomorrow. I'm due for another oil change now so I will send this one in quicker. This last one was sitting on my toolbox waiting to be shipped for 6 months.
 
Scan 001 is 6.5L and scan 002 is 7.3L. I can't figure out how to rotate the pics.
