I'm starting to build my motor see post in 6.2 section. Anyway I have seen a couple post her and on DP that say not to use a high volume /high pressure oil pump. Why is this???

Yeah im kind of wondering the same thing. They use the high volume pump on the 6.5 that have the piston oil squirters 98? and newer right?

What would be a problem using that pump on a 6.2 or earlier 6.5? I know where I live I dont have to worry about subzero temps and excess oil pressure issues that may cause.

To add to first post.

Is it so you don't suck the pan dry at higher RPM's with the stock pan?? Or is there some kind of oiling issue with these motors??

Also what about running a low pressure/high volume pump???

I'm asking because I'm running ( already in the truck from before) -10 oil line to duel remote filters then a cooler. And now I'll be adding the turbo. That's a lot of oil for a stock pump to keep a good flow rate up.

I would put better pump on if there is a low pressure high volume one that is good. Your lines and cooler may not be good at higher pressures, who knows. I think the oil fittings got bigger in later models, 97+, 3/8 to 1/2"

Now that doesnt mean it wont work, I have no experience with it.

I love it when people say not to do something but dont explain why.

Thanx Buddy. Doesn't that just drive ya crazy when people do that.

All my lines in the truck are ( -6 fuel & -10 Oil ) Earls Pro Lite 350 Lightweight Tough Nylon Covered High Pressure Hose, Withstands 350 Max PSI with Aeroquip fittings so pressure will not be a problem. Just want to know if there is any basis for people saying DO NOT RUN and high pressure pump in the 6.2/6.5. All I want to know is WHY NOT!! and i can't seem to get an answer.

So here's another one! Are the pumps the same as the Gassers??

Pumps are not the same as chevy gassers. All different part numbers.

For 1997-2000 6.5 high volume oil pump:

Melling M255-294S
Federal mogul - Sealed power 224-43621
Dana corp 601-2091

well Ive seen diesel depot put high volume ones on 6.2, so must be OK, and was reminded of it when I saw another thread with an ebay Burb with a 6.2 with high volume pump.

I would think once they went turbo'd they changed the pumps to compensate for the extra turbo line?? So perhaps the 6.5 is already upgraded ??

How much for an AC-DELCO 6.5 replacement? Thats what I would toss in there if it were mine.

I dont know if there is a diff between 6.2 and 6.5 oil pumps prior to oilsquirts.
seeing you'r adding a turbo i would just use a 6.5 pump. They pump plenty oil.
going with the high volume pump would be overkill and cause hotter oil temps cause the extra oil would just be leaving trough the relief valve.IT wont raise oil press as the relief valve is controlling that part

I am running the 1997 6.5 squirter pump, and have found it to be a good thing for my motor. I have slightly higher pressure and flow, which never hurts.

I order the Melling M255-294S high flow on Friday. I'll let you guys know how it works PSI wise IE pressures at Idle and through the RPM range. Also will have the install & pictures in my 6.2 buildup post.
