can the pan be dropped on a 4x4 6.5 without taking the motor out? I have a leak and with 235k it wouldnt hurt to put some rod bearings in.

I also need a high output alt. cause of the electric heaters i have on the veg system I need more amps. I can find them for the 97 up but not the 95 with the drivers side mount. any help?

You have to drop the front diff.

You could try Mean Green Alternators, Motor City Reman, Alterstart, db electrical, Mechman Alt or Powermaster (to name a few). Most of these are choices for the CB and car audio guys, although I am sure there are others out there.

Use a 97+ CS-144 alternator for a high output unit. You won't be able to use the rear mounting bracket and will need a longer bolt for the top mount. Also the CS-144 uses a larger output stud than the CS-130 does. The CS-144 can also be had in a 200 and a few companies make a 300 amp version if you need ALOT of amps.

Just the big 4 bolts on the diff were enough for it to lower a few inches which gave just enough room to pop the pan.

Hard to tell if your truck is lifted by the avatar picture. If it is, you may have the clearance.

Factory used RTV only, no gasket, and mine wasn't easy to break free.

With all the cracked blocks I see on here... You may as well do it right and pull the engine and check it over before throwing rod bearings at it. With the risk of a bad repair it is best to just fix the leak and leave the rest alone. (You may have a cracked block where the rod bearings would be a waste of money.) Even then one has to ask how bad the leak is and do cost of oil vs. cost of repair... Adding engine oil may be cheaper.

THEFERMANATOR,
do you have a pic on the bracket modification with using CS144 in 95?

The original have top bracket bolted around 11 oclock, back bracket spanning with bolt at 6 oclock and 3 oclock.

So what do you use for the back bracket?

Thx.

You can just leave the rear bracket off, I persoanlly took a piece of 1" angle iron and welded onto the old bracket after I had cut it down to clear the larger CS-144. The 96+ alternators are clocked just like the CS-130 from the 95-, but it does use a longer top bolt.

post 16 is pics from when I had my 6.5 and a 97 CS-144 140 amp alternator.

I know on 96&^ its easy to add second alt (dual alts) When I ordered my 93 I did have the option of dual alts also. So, maybe you could just add another one?? Check GM you might get a nice supprize at the price of the brackets needed.

I was wondering this myself. I have seen it on a few 6.5 truck chassis ambulances. Didn't know if it was GM done or body upfitter kit. Thanks.

I have a buddy that just bought the brackets (three months ago) for a 96, so should be able to still get them.
On my 93 it was a 3/4 ton 2wd and I did have the option of getting dual alts, but at the time remember thinking it was just something else to break so I passed.

i spent some time at the stealership today working with the D+ high school student they had behind the counter and we couldnt find anything for the 95- I too have seen them on older trucks. I have chosen to go with the cs-144 I found a NEW AC-DELCO on Craigslist for $75.

so i foud a NEW A/C Delco 140 amp off a 96 up on craigslist for $75 and like THEFERMANATOR said the clock was the same, i removed the back braket, the top braket is a Z shape and i fliped it over and used a spacer and a longer bolt, drilled out the eyelet to fit the biger output stud and it works good. thanks for the info guys.

Make sure the pulley is the right diameter or your tach will be off.
