Nv4500 bellhousing cracks

Between the three project trucks all with nv4500 I have acquired in last few years, two appear to have cracks in bellhousing. I am not sure what I am doing with either of the two rigs with the cracks as of yet. Might rebuild the crew cab and turn into runner or might oart out.

Are these bellhousings aluminum? Didn't think to look close at that when I was under there, but looking at pics now they sure look to be aluminum.

Are they repairable? Junk?

Yes and they don't weld very good. I got lucky and found a iron Bell housing, the hd trucks used iron.

I think I saw a bell housing in the tool shed a while back. Not sure what it was off of.
I'll try to get a pic of it to see if anyone wants it

Well crap. A cast iron one would be nice. Maybe I will see if there is a local welder that can salvage these.

Correction. All I saw was a cover

IMO the reason these crack is the lack of support rods from the motor mounts. i believe most if not all had them, but engine swaps and clutch jobs over the years have lost most of them.

Whenever Im in a junkyard I keep an eye out for them.

The rods are steel tubes/spacers that trans mount bolts pass through?

No, bracket that sandwiches between motor mount and engine block, solid rod with a eyelet in each end, one end to bottom of bellhousing, other end to motor mount bracket.

I think that my K3500 has only one strut rod. Passenger side IIRC.

I think the forward driveshaft on the drivers side is in the way.
Unless I crawl under there I cant recall why there is only one strut rod.
