NV3500 major issues

I like shifting gears, but i dont like the aggrivation like this that comes along with it.
I would be very tempted to throw an automatic in there and be done with it.
I honestly don't know what we're going to do. I don't think my husband believes me that it is the shift fork in the transmission,so he is going to try to flush/clean the transmission or something. It does seem to be only having this problem in spells meaning one minute it's fine and the next it's acting up. From all of the research that I did and all the people I have talked to I am convinced that it is the shift fork needing replaced:(

Well I found a transmission for our truck and we replaced it last weekend. It shifts perfectly. It acts like the actuator is not working right and is brand new. It doesn't always want to go into 4 wheel drive,it went into 4 wheel drive last night but then it got stuck in 4 wheel drive,we had to take the driveshaft out of it today so my hubby could get to work. Has anyone else had something like this happen?? Anyone know how to fix it??

Yes it is. It's a 2001 S10 4.3 V6,we just replaced the transmission. We have always had issues with the actuator not working,we've replaced it numerous times and replaced the bracket thing that it sets on cause we noticed that it was bent from hitting a deer. We hear a clicking noise coming from the glove compartment when we try to engage it. It is not stuck in 4 wheel drive anymore since we removed the driveshaft and then put it back in. I have read a thousand things that could be wrong. Would fluid level in the transfer case cause this? We're not exactly sure how much is in it or how much is supposed to be in it.
