NV 4500 Broken Again

I don't know they were in the tranny when I got it. Right now I'm trying to get my old 86 GMC on the road, so I have something to drive to work. It sucks having 6 vehicles and only one is driveable . Hopefully I will pull the tranny tomorrow.

i feel your pain but on a lesser scale iv got 3 and only one of them runs most of the time. shes a dieing old girl and i keep chucking parts at her

I got the tranny out and all apart, tonight. My tranny guy thinks the cryo treating made it break, and that I beat it obviously .

Just got done,it shifts great and doesn't rattle at idle anymore.

I had help, but I probably did most the work, including taking it back apart,to install the reverse idler needle bearings, DUH. I am really impressed how quiet it is,I am going to blame that input shaft for a lot of my previous problems. It was a little chipped ever since I had this tranny.

If you get the chance and money swap in the NV5600..My 03 dodge has that and I LOVE it..well all but how it shifts....it reminds me of an old mack truck...my truck stock is supposed tobe 305hp, then I got a smarty Jr. chip which is like 40hp, 60hp and 100hp settings.....I can slip my stock clutch on 60 and 100hp modes..ive done burn outs in 6th gear while rolling on wet streets and she still lives!!! I do dead stop uphill burn outs in 2nd gear and she still lives!!! we even tow anything we can get hooked to it with no problems...and I still get around 22mpg on highway!!!! and around 14-16 around town depending on my drive style.....1-4 is gears pretty close and 5th is nice 6th is a total over drive and idles her back to like 1600rpms I think it is in my truck...my old 94 chevy had the NV4500 and it was a dog, motor was reallly tired and struggled to run 5th gear with anyload behind it, it reallly needed that closer ratio of the NV5600...

I have heard of them breaking also. My friend snapped his input shaft, and there isn't a billet one available for the NV5600. I just put a twin disc in my brother inlaw's 04 with the NV5600. I'm pretty sure he's going to brake it,but so far it's holding up.
