So with it up on stands in 2high and in park can you rotate the front driveshaft?

My 96 would have the front end stick in the engaged position. I think most of my issues came from a wreck I was in where the passenger front wheel was hit pretty hard, it fractured a thrust washer in the engagement mechanism. I was also told that I needed to see if the driver's side output shaft had slop as that was a sign of the bearings going out and if did that could be a possible cause for sticking in gear.
You should have the electric version. If you unscrew it and it unlocks the axle it most likely died in the extended position. Most of our trucks came with a TLA thermo linear actuator and when they failed the axle would be unlocked.
YUP, whatever position it died in that`s where it`ll stay.I have the electric version.
