Same thing after I flushed my system, I had to top it off a few days later. Only time the low coolant light has ever come on.

250 wayyyy too hot. You will damage something. How's the fan clutch ?
I hit 215-220 very briefly last tow but I was working the truck hard and I think the fan clutch mod will rectify it.
:iagree: That is the biggest concern IMO with buying a used 6.5, what the PO perceived as too HOT especially with regards to where GM marked the OEM temp gauge red, the party is over by then
Doc is telling us ALL like it is, if it running HOT it ain't gonna last long if ya ignore it...:nono:
Sustained heat is what I'm talking about Kenny, but any incursions above 210 need to be looked into it's amazing how much crud accumulates on the rad behind the ac condenser I suspect the gap between the 2 heat exchangers has a negative pressure area and the vacuum sucks in any nearby object. I once found a bird carcass in one I was cleaning yet no hole in the condenser, so it got sucked in around it.
Yes that is HOT but a different kind of heat one that a water pump upgrade I doubt will do anything to improve
