No Tach and my NEW Alt doesn't charge... HELP!

There is also a chance that you get another bad alt.

For the cable, just change it for now if you are in a hurry. Put an extra cable from alt to battery to see if the alternator is actually can charge.
 
The new alt is working great. I doubt the old one was bad but it was a free way to trouble shoot. The fusable link seems to have done its job the cable between the link and the DS + batt terminal was COOKED. With my spliced in fuse all is well and I can run until the new link is delivered.
