hello I have a 1996 6.5 turbo diesel 4l80e 2500 ex cab 4x4 I got truck on a trade it ran like a top it was after confirmation the 4l80e was bad decided I didn’t want to rebuild so I bought a standard transmission and converted my 4l80e to standard put shift position indicator on frame in Park position plugged in plugged all trans case wires back up and put main 4l80e plug on frame (not plugged in) now theirs no fuels at injectors so I bleed system at fuel filter housing then t handle try injectors again still dry so I pull plunger from injection pump it’s not opening but getting power with key I run a ground wire straight to batt to it now when cut the key on it works as should try injectors again nothing so do more research and learn theirs another shut off type sensor on back of pump so i think wat ever is telling plunger not to open is same thing shutting it off do more research find pcm is very common although I have a relocation kit I still replace with new pcm try again still dry any help is greatly appreciated thanks and god bless

Don't run grounds straight to battery. This creates a ground loop and any resistance in main battery cables causes high current in any other ground wires on battery. Ground to engine frame or whatever it was grounded too. Ground strap from frame to engine and body to engine. Yes, GM fcks this up from the factory to save $0.001 on wire.

Do you have a SES and STS light on key on? No, ECM doesn't have power or ground. As Will said the ECM ground uses the auto trans dipstick bolt.

Ok Thank yall feel very welcome and yes just converted it to standard from 4l80e and power with key no ground I will check the grounds soon as I get home thanks again

Ok I went to ground wires and found none loose but I did in searching find a broke wire end can’t tell if it was bolt on or a simple plug in but has 2 wires joined together black with white tracer and a brownish Orangeish wire and they come out of same harness glow plug wires do and suspose to hook somewhere now it is testing hot but when I ground it injector pump plunger works as it should but supply pump shuts off unhook with key on and plunger shuts supply pump comes back on does anyone know where these wires go

These r wires I’m referring to and u can see grounds where dipstick use to be

Pretty sure the black with white stripe is a ground. Brown orange is something else - maybe 4x4? You will have to look at a wire diagram.

You can’t tell by the pictures but the brown/orange wire is crimped into the same eyelet as the black wire with white chaser.

Same here but when I ground it supply pump shuts off and speed gauge goes up to 10 and fuel gauge quits working but plunger on injection pump starts working as it should then I unhook wires from ground plunger quits working but supply pump comes back on

How many grounds do you have at the back of the passenger side intake? With an auto trans you should have 3. IIRC they're all black though.
I have 3 then the 2 that was made together into 1 end I thought they was a ground and when grounded injection pump works as should witch was main prob I had so getting closer but upon further inspection the wires have power witch explains y gauge panel acts like a power wire is grounded somewhere but not where these mysteries wires go I call myself looking all over

They both was in a broke off wat look like ignition wire on starter but couldn’t tell wat size bolt it went on due to it being broke off and gone these wires comes out of same harness glow plug wires come out of

Both that tan wire and the black wire hooks to ground.
In another thread I actually told someone to disconnect that tan wire from ground if it has voltage. That was wrong information.
Both the tan and the black wire grounds at the back of the intake manifold.
If You have not already done so, while the nut is off of the grounding stud, wire brush and clean thoroughly, to a shine that stud and nut. before putting any ground wires under that nut.
