I took some pics of how to take the heater control out and change the bulbs.i used a small dia hose pushed on the bulb to create some grip as to be able to pull them out of the sockets.
First pic is from a 95 unit,last pic is from a 98
The control assembly is held in by 2 tabs that have to be pried towards the assembly to unlatch them.the heater control facing and locking tabs are the same from 95 to 98 but they cannot be swapped from a 95 to a 98 as the back side is different,Dont know about other yrs.Bulbs are the same for all yrs
Ofcourse one has to remove the top dash panel by pulling it straight back out of the clips
As been said before the lightbulbs in the 98(possible other yrs as well)looks like they are soldered in.:rolleyes5:
Here is pics how to acces these as well.
There are a number of 3 mm hex screws (need a 3 mm or 1/8" socket or nut driver to get at least 1 of them out)holding the circut board to the bezel + one needs to remove a ring nut on front as well.
Pic 1 and 2 show the locking tabs on the bezel, they are all around it.
Pic 4 shows the bulbs, can you find them, there is 10 of them
The last pic is of a blue plastic thingemedjingy that must have fell out of the radio somewhere. I have no idea where it belonged, cant find no place it'll fit:mad2:
I guess the radio will have to stay dark,i tried finding some small led lights to rig up but am unable to find any that'll fit . they need to be a 1/4" shorter than the #74 that go in the heater control.
if you look at the pic, there are 4 blackish bubbles in a row in the middle and at the bottom,2 more at the far left top and bottom.
the bulbs are about 12 mm long and 4 mm across with the leads straight trough the circuit board and soldered on the other side.
I crushed 1 of these bulbs so the leads are still there, and should be plenty long to solder another bulb to it without compromising the delicate board.
