Hi out there. I bought a 95 sub about a month ago and am new to diesel performance. I've been reading all the threads for the past two wks and have learned alot, but have a couple of ?? I was wondering if someone would help this newbie out. I made my own tm. and folled the sensor with steel wool instead of getting a dash pot. what is the safe boost level I can run with stock chip.

I've moved your post into the 6.5 diesel section. You'll get a better answer here.

Do you have a boost gauge,, and if so, I'd stay around 10 or so with a stock chip anbd no other mods.

How and where did you hear about fooling the boost sensor with Steel wool??!??

I'm a old school tech. I knew that if I could reduce the pressure signal it would not see the higher boost. I have it set at 10lbs. I new iwas in the ball park but don't won't to run lean or hike the egts. will I be safe towing 6000 up the mountain in fancy gap

If your going to tow you really need to get an EGT guage. You can burn these engines up without realizing it.

Thank you. I've been reading the threads here for a few weeks and saw how helpful you guys are to new members and decided to sign up. I've been a mechanic for over 20 yrs. and know little to nothing about diesels, I really appreciate the help and if there's anything I can do to help to return the favor I will.

The other thing you should know is keep the engine temps 210* or less might need to clean rad or possibly do fan clutch mod

I also do hvac repair on residential and used the same stuff i do on the evaps and condensers. It works great, dropped my temps by about 10 but how bout a 180 t-stat. would that throw the ecm or dump more fuel. I'm getting 22-23 and would like to stay as close to that as i can.

Lots of diff opinions on that one. The consesus was use only ac delco or robert shaw but as far as temps generally speaking everyone agrees 195 is better for mileage. It's when you start towing and running hot you get the diff of opinions.

I don't tow heavy[4,500lbs] travel trailer. But I will go up and down the east coast in the hottest months june july august. To pa and florida and mass. Fancy gap is the only place that I'm worried about. Sustained grade for like ever.

the EGT numbers I gave you earlier were for pre-turbo. Which is my preference if you want to do post turbo you need to subtract about 300* IIRC.

Use the search button above for EGT Probe,, there are some pics of where to put it. and the safe temps for each area.

Welcome to the site

If you go pre turbo the probe can go in the DS. of the cross over or on a flat spot on Pass. side manifold below the turbo.

Old school is always welcome

Thanks guys. I'm very happy to find this site, This is my first td. sub and love how informative and helpful you are. I took a chance on this sub because the guy was giving it away and thought it was junk. He was wrong and sofar I love it.
