Hey yall...I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. I live in the foothills of NC and I do a little farming on the side with my dad and brother. I've got a 2002 2500HD Duramax with six speed manual that has a little over 200,000 miles on it. It has some mods done to it...nothing extraordinary. But what brought me to this site was my lack of knowledge of a 6.5 TD. I'm working on a 1997 3500 HD (1.5 ton) with 6.5 TD, that had a blown motor...I think they forgot to change the oil. I'm building a spray rig for the farm so I'm converting it to 4WD. I would just like to thank all of yall in advance for your time and help.

Welcome to The Truck Stop. :welcome5:

You came to the right place to get that 6.5 some help. We have the best group here that can help you along....

Thats a good idea...I'm guessing everyone wants pictures??? Well yall may have to wait awhile because I'm still scratching my head over this engine.

BTW...I think I'm more confused than ever after reading all these threads. Sometimes I'm a "act before I think" type guy and on this 6.5 have replaced the injector nozzles with "marine" nozzles. Can someone point me to a thread that would tell me if I made a mistake installing a marine tip with a stock spring for pop pressure.

There's a couple suppliers out there of military take outs that might be a more cost effective option for you.

However, if just the bearings are roached, you may get away with just replacing those. A farm truck just needs to run, not run really well.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks, but I've already found a replacement engine, transmission and transfercase which was taken from 2000 K3500. I was just trying to help the motor out a little with a few simple mods before installing back into the truck.

Ah, gottcha.

Just an FYI, the pop pressure of the injectors is controlled by the spring, but it is also shimmed for the housing. The shim is the adjustment and as such, the pop pressure is dependant on it.

Without testing your rebuilt injectors, you can't be sure where the pop pressures are.

If they're badly out of adjustment (IE: large variances across cylinders) it can lead to anything from rough running to eventual failure.

Might be worth pulling them out and heading down to the local diesel place.

Most farm implement places will check them for you cheap or free...
