Well here is the story. The truck started life as an automatic trans after 2 rebuilds and no one would touch it I priced new 4L80e. Without a core and one "built" to handle plowing and towing it was $2800. So for $2000 I put in a NV4500, and all was fine so I thought. Then the surging at idle started. I called Heath after suggested to from here. He was very helpfull. he gave me a few things to do. One was the 2000 rpm test to see if IP was good. IP failed test. So I bought a rebuild from Pensecola Diesel. Put it in and surging went away for the most part. Just occasionly it would do it not everytime I hit a red light......Till yesterday. After 1.5 weeks with the new pump the truck starts acting the same way it did with old pump. So I did the 2000 rpm test with the new pump. It FAILED. So now my big question is.....
Does the ECM dictate which trans should be in the truck or is it in the chip??? I did not change the chip or ECM when I changed to the NV 4500. It does have soft codes( no SES light) they are all trans related: 73,81,82,83.

OBTW the truck has 89,000 miles.

Thanks guys. I love my truck but dammit I am getting tired of this SH*T!!!!!

It does have the chip right? What is the code on the chip? Mine is also an F code. Oh and price?

IIRC the truck shouldn't be effected by the "missing" transmission. It should only throw a code. Lack of fuel delivery to the IP will kill it and seeing as you said it failed the Ip test again theres a chance your Lift pump may be having issues.

Check the OPS, Lift Pump itself, and relay.

The program for auto vs. manual is different for sure. Have Bison hook you up.

I also would have to agree with fuel supply being suspect, -can't hurt to check it out.

Bison sounds good so far but dont know what new ones cost. I will check fuel supply this weekend. Pump is running can hear it after I shut the truck off till oil press. drops. But as for psi and flow ?????

got some # for ye, on the CHIP, BNTK 1621 5278.
beside the barcode on the ECM 2488.

These are stock #'s No aftermarket chip or reflash. Do you or anyone else know if this will be a drop in or not.
1 more ? Where are the ECM and chip from?? Dealer, SS Diesel, Heath, etc.....

I have'nt a clue if it'll drop in, a guy would think so, the engines are the same, only diff is the IP. you got a 5068,i got 5521 or some thing like that,it's the latest blue tag

i see in your sig "pmd cooler"....is it from Heath?....is it new?...what brand of PMD and what cooler and where is it mounted?...are you gettin' any codes?.........i have a rebuild from pensecola on the burb with 15,000 miles on it and not a bit of trouble.....

It is a SS Diesel one and it is still on the intake. I know i need to get it outa there. I have swapped in my spare(new) and doesn't change anything. The codes I get are for the automatic trans 73,81,82,83. And these are soft caodes no SES light.

some thing fishy there, if there's no gauge fluctuation between RPMs.Does it drop when you step on it?

Are you sure you aren't reading 3-4 at idle, low side btw, and you are pinching your test hose as you try to raod test, leaving it froze at idle fuel psi?

Re-check that test.

Nope. That is why I cant figure it out either.
Like Matt said,retest that pressure.

Where did you hooked the Gauge in? T valve hose? if you did then leave the valve open. If it dont drop pressure when you step on it,replace the filter, and try again.
You sure the gauge is good?

I did the test quite a few times. It just fluxuate more than 1 psi (4-5) idle or tromping on it. The supply pump is only about a year old. I know that really dont mean anything. My gauge is good. T valve was open all the way. Hose was not pinched.
Here is a new one though>>> just for S&G I disconnected the batteries for about 3 hours last nite.............. Now the truck runs better just surging once in a while. I drive 20 some miles to work with 8 stops will surge at maybe one of them. I know the ecm's on the 6.5's check certain things every 50 key starts could there be something with that? I am still only getting 73,81,82,83 on the codes but NO ses light.
>>>>> Does anyone know for sure if Bisons ecm and chip will work with my setup????
