Hello new to this site

Once upon a time....

Back in May this year i bought a 1995 chevy suburban 6.5 which was a non runner and had been for four years! Previous owner said it needed a new injection pump

Not knowing alot about these as im from england i researched info on how to install a ds4 IP. firstly i purchased a remanufactured IP from america with a 1 year warranty that was fully tested with all new electrical parts replaced and brand new pmd. After installation / timing etc with scan tool thinking anything was running smooth the truck then frequently started stalling and showing codes 18, 35, 54! after many weeks of stalling and arse twitching driving discovered lift pump / oil pressure switch was bad causing ip to overheat due to lack of fuel maybe. after replacing both OPS and LP thinking we cured the problem, stalling still continued!

next step cleaned all known earths etc and put some 2 stroke oil in fuel and some diesel additive! stalling came less frequent, however eventully the truck would not start. we sent IP back for replacement under warranty thinking it may be the culprit

different ip unit was sent back to us, at present i have just installed the new reman IP, but still no fuel coming out of injection lines. tryed known working pmds, tryed everthing i did the first time i installed it

checked all fuses, relays, grounds. the ****er still wont run! i have a switch for on / off for LP and in dash fuel gauge showing 7 psi with lp running. theres plenty of fuel going in and out of ip. no error codes at present. also numerous electrical tests found on the web

Has any one got any advice please

david

I would check your fuel tank for contaminants and lines for leaks. At least use the drain and pump out a litre or so and see what it looks like, any water bubbles at the bottom, and frothing, or floating particles?

Is there 7psi fuel pressure at the drain or the IP? If at the drain then the pressure could be less through the filter to the IP. Like there could be a dirty fuel filter if the pressure is checked only at the drain.

Can you eliminate your homemade FSD harness? Can it be removed or did you just splice in more wire? Can you do an ohm check from the FSD harness to the IP harness?

On a 95 placing the trans in "D" and turning the key to start should get the Lift pump to operating.

As long as the key is held to start the lifr pump will fuction.

If no pump then you need to find out why.

If lift pump runs then run the lift pump (Tranny in D and key in start position)

Be sure you have fuel to the top of the IP (Inlet line)

Remove the glow plugs and spin the engine for about 30 seconds.
At this point you should see fuel mist at the glow plug holes spraying out while the engine is cranked.

If fuel present, install plugs, glow and start engine.

With engine running you should be able to open the fuel drain line at the front of the engine and have fuel come out the drain and the engine should run fine.
If the engine stalls or otherwise has issues while the drain is open the lift pump is at fault.

Always be sure the filter is in good order.

Make sure the fuel shut off solenoid clicks when key is turned on and off.

Fuel tank has been taking off, drained and cleaned! filled back up in clean diesel and all fuel lines are ok

Im not using pmd extension at the moment so that has been eliminated. the fuel guage is in the line between fuel filter and ip,

also done ohm check from pmd.

im really unsure whats wrong

Is the FSO solenoid on the IP engaging when the ignition is turned on. It is the vertical cylinder on the front of the IP. I take it you have loosened a couple of injector lines to check for fuel at the injectors.

pull the glows like MGW suggested. It will spin over alot faster and not be fighting engine compression to prime.
