In Arizona, buying another diesel Suburban
CIMG0082 (Small).JPGCIMG0326 (Small).JPGCIMG0087 (Small).JPGCIMG0075 (Small).JPGAll of my 6.5's smoke something awful cold. If I plug them in, the starting and smoke is much less, but I can't always plug them in, so I was thinking that since they run well hot, maybe the injectors are bad. One '93 mech inj, and a '94 red one from Phoenix w the fuel turned up a bit by Buddy, and the '95 Mrs drives. All are very hi mileage, 250+, and the '93 has a new IP.

I don't need any marine Hi-Po stuff, stock is fine. Since Buddy tweaked a new chip on the red '94, it's more than enuff for me!

I didn't do a search, cause too much stuff comes back, and I have to get back to changing the water pump on my '84 Sub 6.2

First check the glow plugs.. If you find its the injectors and you have a reputable diesel shop in upstate ny you can have them rebuilt and the pop pressures set to your spec's if you just want to replace them try to find a set that is made in the usa..... the chinnes made injector's have a reputation of the tips coming apart..

I just bought a set of remans off of fleabay from a place called mylex and they seem to be working just fine ( bout 500 miles on them). cheap too.

New Bosch nozzles at rock auto are 16 bucks apiece. You'd have 135 in 'em by the time they got to your door, then all the fuss of lapping sealing surfaces, setting pop pressures etc..

Under 200 for 8 reman squirts no core charge.. wow.. Hey if they Work just fine? Not a bad deal at all.

Setting Pop pressures? WTF???:WTF:

The injectors are a 'poppet' style valve. As line pressure from the IP builds per cycle, the injector 'pops' or squirts a fine mist at around 2200psi. When you 'set pop pressures' you are matching all 8 as close as they can be for the best cyl to cyl timing.

This would be right up you alley, tinkering with a home-made pop tester, 8 squirts, shims, and about 15 straight hours of diesel mist.. lol.. (not really)

Oh my goodness!!!! That set of nine pics you posted this morning!!! Were all your pics from yesterday and today from the same wrecking yard? I'd go absolutely crazy looking through that yard!!! Late 40's Ford pickup/truck cabs, somewhere around 1958 GM truck still on wheels, early/mid 50's Ford car, mid 50's Nash wagon, early 60's Chrysler product (Dodge/Plymouth?), early Pontiac GTO's!!!

What car is that you're leaning on in pic #8? Obviously an import from the mid/late 50's. Rear engine.

Also, I'd guess the blue car behind you in pic #8 is an early 50's Nash.

I AM DROOLING!!!

Don

Hi Don... The GTO and Nash were NOT in a wrecking yard! Far from it! We were driving thru Los Banos Cal, and my co pilot spotted a Late Corvair, so I kinda reluctanlty turned around after he told me it had a rear spoiler. What we found was astonishing! The guy new me, and my vids, and gave us a several hour tour of his former car museum.
I'll post addnl pix we took, and there's a video to go along too!

Oh WOW!!! Oh am I drooling!!! Thank you for that vid.

I would love to be able to see all those cars up close.

Don

I got a set of injectors from IIRC accurite diesel. The guy is top notch and can be reached by phone if there is a question or problem. Had the injectors sent in when I had head issues and they were all with in 10psi of each other. I've now got about 5k of mostly towing on them and no issues. I'd buy from him again.

Accurate diesel injectors were losing pressure by 50k miles and causing really rough starts.

Tanner, I've not any injector problems. I sent then in when the pick up was down and the shop said they all tested pretty dang good. He said he was suprised because they were an off brand.

Mine were all rebuilt and set at 2300psi. I have new glow plugs, timing has been set at - 1.76, no air in lines. The only thing left that can make a truck with good compression chug on a warm day is a couple bad injectors.

Called Tim when I started having issues and he said he couldn't do anything about it. Just sharing my experiences. I called him with in 6 months of install and around 20k on the set. They were smoking more and more as time went on.
