Hi guys, learned a lot here before I registered.I have a 85 1009 which is my only vehicle right now.Its about to be converted to 12V,and my future plans are to re-gear to 373s or 410s with a aod trans, then turbo.

Welcome to The Truck Stop!

Why g to 12v.? A simple isolator and you can run radio, extra lighting, etc. on 12v. and still have the easier starting and better charging system. Just pick up a extra parts ahead of time so there is no waiting when you need, like starter etc. Your still going to have to have 2 batteries anyways. Newer cars are going to a 36v. system really soon.

Not trying to talk you out of it, I just don't know the advantages.

Thanks for the welcome, the only thing left on truck that's 24v is the starter,I had starter issues recently and decided to try 12v for a while.I can always go back if I need to.

The truck looks tough, which is how a truck is supposed to be. The Malibu and boom sticks are pretty, though.

Thankyou, sadly the Malibus moter gave up on Easter Sunday of this year,it was running mid 12s in quarter mile. And then my work car with 185k died shortly after,so now its just me and my 1009.Im trying to decide on new motor for Malibu .And the boom sticks shoot better than they look! Someday the truck will be kinda pretty too!

Thanks Leo. Can someone click the post reply button for me, cant seem to find the energy. Oh wait here you go.

Welcome. As it's you only vehicle I suggest the only thing you do to it now it keep it running - no "projects". Projects take time and money and suck when they don't go well and finish up before the Monday AM commute.
24v is hands down the faster way to start the engine. Esp. with an old and worn IP. If 24v parts are short you gotta do what you gotta do.

Thanks for the warm welcomes and advice guys.Im still up in the air on 12v vs 24v issue,if we have as bad a winter as last year 24v would help.

Thanks for the advice Warwagon, that's exactly what I have been doing, keeping it running and trying to prepare it for winter,Im currently 24v.but have a new 12v starter sitting here just in case,I also have a 24v direct drive starter which should be here Friday, probably will need a rebuild though. My turbo and regear mods are in the far distant future.Im a nervous wreck with only one vehicle running.

I wouldn't hesitate to bolt in a 12v starter. As long as you don't have extended cranking it would be fine. Really spin it over good too.
