I just recently purchased a 1995 GMC 3500 4x4 crew cab. I do not know the history for certain but I think it was a state truck in Montana years ago. It has a gasoline 5.7 engine engine and I think it has a NV4500 5 speed transmission. I am not sure what Tcase. It is a cab chassis truck with about 60" from the cab to the axle. The frame sticks out to around 9'2" behind the rear of the cab plus a massive bumper beyond that.

It does not have a bed yet. I like the truck but am not sure what to do about a bed. I will go with flatbed if I have to but would prefer a normal truck bed. I can not weld or do body work but If I could I would like to make a custom length bed from 2 beds welded together for a bed around 9.5'.

Never seen one like that around here and I have no Idea how hard it would be to make. If I get a friend to do it for me do any of you guys have suggestions on where to chop and weld? Also If I only extended the rear of the bed how much gap would I have from the cab to the bed compared to a normal truck bed?

Welcome to the Truck Stop!

Make sure you post pictures up when you make your bed, it sound pretty cool.

So this was a intro and a question sorry If I should have seperated it into two post and into 2 forums. I have not looked around yet enough to know the whats and where to.

My 93 is ~9'6" from cab to rear of the frame. It is in my Avatar and has a big ol flat bed with 4 HUGE tool boxes under it.

Welcome to TTS, you have come to the right place for massive amounts of info and the people here can even help with your gasser (and potential diesel conversion :driving:)

Finally have the bed made and mounted. It turned out to be 9ft. The inside still needs lined/painted. Did not end up using dually flares since it is a cab chassis truck which I still keep hearing did not exist in 95 as a crew cab meaning the rear axle is not as wide as a normal dually. Had to change the wheel fender arches to line up the with the wheels.

Truck turned out SWEET! They made the C&C 4x4 Crew Cab custom order and you just customized it even more.

There used to be a 3500HD Crew Cab 12ft bed 2wd on craigslist. That could beat you in the boat contest but you would be hard to beat by most people.
