So with a growing family and a POS Nissan Altima 2.5s the wife and I decided it was time to UPgrade. I gave the wife a couple options, mainly either a 6.5L or a truck converted to propane. She then called my trucks smelly and loud, so we settled for a truck from a trusted source.

So, I hopped on a plane to Houston and toured base camp. Looks like area 51 in the shop and the staging room looks like a candy store. LOTS of treasure in there. I made it out with a bag full of treats and a 2003 K1500HD 6.0L 4l85 Quadsteer and Propane conversion (I would have loaded a few engines and one very nice truck if I was left alone long enough).

I made the mistake of bragging about never getting pulled over on my way home from buying an out of state truck. So a nice officer of the law let me know the speedo was off 5mph on the South side of Dallas and asking me to support the Obama fund if I cant prove the tires are throwing the speedo off. He reduced my 80 in a 65 to 70 in a 65 and I can get it dropped with a letter from a mechanic, I'm thinking I'll give blackbear tuning a call and add some pep to the truck while I get the speedo corrected. Headed North at 7:00pm and got home by 4:30AM after a few pit stops to keep my fire burning.

Quick to do list: check front end due to intermitant pulling that trades left to right (likely idler/pitman), firmer spring in the APP so the pedal doesnt bounce while trying to hold speed, custom tuning, fix a couple cosmetic blemishes, and look for some more up-to-date tanks w/ electronic gauge (went the budget route with the used tank). Maybe some nice KC lights for the bumper

The truck will affectionately be called Leroy, The Quad, or Mom Mobile.

Awesome!! I am positive that's Leroy's Quad, yes. Especially with the Propane conversion.

I want a GMC Quadrasteer (mostly due to the front end) 1500HD CC for my winter beast once I can afford one.

PSSST: Get some Rigid LED's for the bumper. That will light up the road!

GPS Should be brought with or purchased and the Speedo verified in an unknown rig against the GPS 1st thing. Also the gauge cluster motors can give up and read all kinds of weirdness.

I downloaded a phone ap and the speedo is off 4-5mph depending on cruising speed. It has 32x12.5r20 (305/50r20) tires and that calculates out pretty close to what the speed difference is. This size of tire should actually roll out to around 32.5".

Yes, it is Leroy's quadsteer. I liked it first time he posted it up and then I saw he did propane kits. Wife said she wished she could get a crew cab like my 06 but she thinks it sucks to turn in parking lots. We found the perfect compromise.

Makes total sense to me. I still want one really bad, lol. You guys are enablers! But I'd send it off to Duraburb for a LBZ/Allison 6 speed conversion...

Hey Tanner! I can't believe how fast you made it home. How many miles was it?
You will really like not have to fill the gasoline tank but every 3000-5000 miles (depends how its driven). I go those distances in my Titan with simular MPGs. On long trips you wont use much gasoline.

Have fun with your new toy. Its wierd not seeing it in the drive way.
Oh and the truck sure looked good when you were driving off and sounded great!. I forgot it had the LED bar in the back.
Have you got to use the HID reverse lights yet?

Anyway it was very nice to meet you finaly. Wish you had more time I could have taken you to some more good eateries.
Tanner is one of the rare ones these days, felt comfortable right off the bat.
Take care.

Yeah I tested the "Back Off" lights on a mustang while heading west out of Okc bout 2:30am. She gave me the finger and pulled in front of me and brake checked, guess she didn't like the my warning lol.

It's was about 700 miles and that truck cruised 80mph like a dream. I played with all of the display options, set up my driver 2 preferences and seat adjustment. Now I'm wanting a loaded 03 or try to figure out how to get all of those options on my 06 lbz, I have steering controls but nothing like that truck.

I had to keep answering questions of the wifes coworkers about the truck all day. The guys there were drooling.

Wife wants splash guards and running boards. She also asked when she gets to pull a trailer with it and was disappointed it didn't have a gooseneck ball. I knew I married her for a reason!

It was good meeting you Leroy, I'll have to make an excuse to come back this winter. Thanks for making me feel at home for my short stay.

The truck has been performing great but my wife decided it should be able to run on fumes. She neglected to fill up with propane while heading 40 miles to the next town, got 12 miles down the road (which from where we live means its 18 miles to a filling station if she bback tracks) and ran out of propane. So she switches to gas (while the low fuel light had been on for over a week) and tries to make it 28 miles. Didnt end well, she made is 27 miles. I bring her gas (from 60 miles the other direction from home) and the truck wont crank. It seems that when you are able to run with the low fuel light on for a week and then try to push it the fuel pump melts, shorts internally, fries the ignition, and the PCM.

Now let me ask, $70 of gas or $800 repair bill? I pick a tank of gas but you can see what the wife picked, needless to say we talked about the consequences of her decisions.

Tanner, you DA. It's your fault. It's ALWAYS your fault, right?

LOL. No, it ain't right, but it keeps you married. :D

Of coarse, there has to be a reason that I caused her to run out of gas! lol If not she will use the guilt trip method as a back up tactic.

"How was I supposed to know?! I'm not a mechanic... It was YOU that wanted to buy this anyhow!"
Was that part of the conversation?

Very true, should get the truck back this afternoon. I get to pay for it for her, apparently I should have known the low fuel light was on and have made sure she went to the nearest filling station before she went to the next town. Silly me.
