New engine, first stall....

Have you checked the voltage at the OBD1 port for the OPS, or done a fuel pressure check while idling? I dont know if you have an LP and CRK fuse in the fuse center like mine in 94.

The vacuum is controlled however, it is limited to 2hg. It is not an airtight vacuum like gasoline (evaropative gas) tanks.

It is NOT freeflowing. IE (hole drilled in it) ...

Its for the foaming, the slight vacuum makes the air molecules bring the foam back to the liquid where it belongs.

Well so far today no more stalling after i installed the OPS (people at Auto Zone are MORONS!!) We will see what happens this weekend, i can feel the lift pump running when i jump the relay.

Just "stopping" sounds like a classic PMD issue to me.

Or possibly an optical sensor going south.

Even at 2 years old, a PMD can fail.

If you are not using a DTECH PMD, get one and swap out the one you have.

My bet on a rolling stall that just shuts off is a PMD failing.

Normally fuel system issues that involve air or such will cause a soggy engine response or stumbling or other issues.

The "Just stops" is a classic PMD symptom.

Early stage PMDitise is my diagnosis.

Many times these things will fool around with the occasional "stop and restart" then all of a sudden it's a stall and no restart until cold and or not at all.

The ones that get real exciting is the PMD that burns a circuit and locks the thing in "FULL THROTTLE " Now let me tell you, this gets real exciting and quickly.

Luckily the system has a failsafe built in so that the ECM shuts off the power to the shut off solenoid Up top of the IP and kills the thing before is fly's apart.

Still gets wild though having a 6.5 thrashing at near 4000 RPM for a few seconds.

Really exciting if your stopped in traffic and it does it.

Also will blow out a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUU MONGOUS cloud of Coal black smoke before it dies.

Try a fresh PMD

Missy

Yeah, it hasnt stalled again "yet" since i installed the OPS. I do not have any money to put towards a new PMD. I am so far in the hole from the $4000 rebuild i cant afford to spend a dime more at this point. I do have 2 spare unknown condition PMD's that are now carried in the truck at all times. I really hpe it was the issue. My oil pressure reads a bit different with this new OPS over my old OPS. SO i hoped that changes it...

Missy,Thanks for the good info on the engine runaway .If I ever had any thought of gutting the Fuel Solenoid Shut Off , I dont anymore .

Yep, & I wired a separate, dash switched, alternative/additional power supply to the added relay. Provides another way to run the lift pump if the OPS lp control circuit dies, or manual control to purge fuel filter housings.

I agree with Robin PMD is going out - I have had them stall 4 times in one
day, then go for 3 weeks without a problem.
Where is your remote mount? Intake?
And to touch on the vented/non vented cap issue, I don't really know why
GM wants a vacuum in there, probably so they could sell more lift pumps as
they wear out from overworking them.
I put a locking gasser cap on mine, and
removed the O-ring so it won't create a vacuum.

Update, still no stalling so far. I do still have all my tools and two spare PMD's with me at all times. The PMD is remote mounted on a heatsink in the "nostril" holes of the bumper. As for the cap i dont tighten it all the way anymore.. It better not be the PMD, its only 1 year old, dont have any money right now... If it id the PMD im done with stanadyne thats for sure!!!
