New Dtech PMD

Funny you mention that, I am working on a 6.5 turbo diesel that had some work done by a diesel shop, new pump, recal ecu and turbo master and this blows me away-NO gauges were installed, the PMD is mounted on the pump and they reused the old filter harness??????????? WTF? and they are a diesel specialist,:confused::mad2::mad2:

There is HUGE difference between a Diesel Specialist and a 6.5 TD Specialist...

I know more about these engines than your average diesel mechanic, especially the new young techs ... and I know absolutely squat compared to REAL 6.5 TD Specialists.

The 6.5 Chevy has its very own set of peculiarities, and anybody who doesn't understand them but decides to work on them anyway is next in line for 'Dork-of-the-month' honours... they'll be sure to do stuff like you describe.

That goes for GM dealerships, too. It's THEIR truck and they can't (for the most part) fix them properly.

That's why this is such a great place to hang out!

I agree, it just pisses me off that they advertise they are a 6.5 specialist, :mad2:

Diesel Specialist (so called)

My SES light came on when driving my newley purchased truck home through Lake Havasu (JAN 07). Being new to trucks in general, diesels specifically and the 6.5 especially (turn key, scenery goes by, me happy mode) I pulled in to a Marine Diesel "specialist" shop. Hey, they should know more than me right? :icon_bs:
They zero'd out the EGR codes and said the fault was an aftermarket computer sending conflicting information to the IP and promptly relieved me of over $80.
Turned out that "computer" was the intake mounted SSD FSD kit placed there by the PO! (yes, I've relocated it). Expensive lesson though, too bad it wasn't the last one. :mad2:

Thanks again to all the 6.5 speciallists here for the knowledge I've gained in the last couple of years.

Paul

Like old addage of "necessity being mother of invention" within 3 mos of owning my 1st 6.5 in 2000, the lesson was very clear learn the beast or pay somebody else to guess at the problem, and hope they can fix it.

My last visit to dealer for warranty IP the tech did not even open the hood and move vehicle from where tow truck dropped it off until replacement IP arrived, I wrote down what the tech needed to see for faults from my GM manual, and set a code they had to deal with with replacement IP.

Been fun helping others with their issues as well, it's unfortunate the old site forgot why we hang out at these forums as enthusiasts helping other enthusaists out, not just for lining the pockets of forum owners for monetary gain only.
