I got a email from Dipaco today. They are making a new pmd. It will be exactly the same as the old version, BUT the case/housing will have a longer notch in it. This will allow for more ajustment of the timing of the IP.
I will try to post a picture of one if they have one to send me.
I just ordered a bunch, so hopfully they will be the new ones.

Thats a good point and the first thing I thought also. I was passing along the new info I have.

I wish the suckers would have made the bolt recess wider, so one can use a flat washer under the bolt head.
Better yet would have been a steel tube with a flange in the bores.

This perplexed me so I did some back door investigation what could this "longer slot" be, what I have been told the "longer slot" is a physical change to the driver, when they "new & improved it" with the thickened heat sink type area, the created another issue, when installed on a IP on some trucks IP rotation was hampered because it now hits the intake, limiting physical arc of IP rotation.

So new & improved or a oops, "Did we Do Thaaaat" ala Steve Urkle required fix, seems to me off IP out of engine bay is the place to keep it, also I suspect the circuitry hasn't changed much with the Dipaco.

Many have tried to rebuild the original Stanadyne "mousetrap" and other than ways make it less suceptable to heat induced fails circuit redesign hasn't netted us a better mousetrap.

might be hitting cooling crossover manifold on later trucks, I'm just parroting what I was told, that the reason was to restore clearance for more IP rotation as timing is a function of IP position and PCM command, along lines why PMD can't be removed off a 97+ cooling system IP easily, but can be removed with some finesse off a single stat setup manifold.

Dtech told me the main reason was for more clearence when rotating IP timing. They said GM requested the mod. And, that on the vans the clearence is even tighter than on the trucks , so they wanted more ajustability. Nothing else changed on the pmd.

Just got the new stock in today and sure enough i got the new version of the PMD. Below is a picture of it, you can see on the left side the "notch" runs all the way across now.

Do people actually put PMDs back on the pump?

The sheep do. There must be a fairly large number of people who know nothing more about their truck than to put diesel fuel in it. Mechanics don't know these engines... Basic R&R.

The precentage of 6.5 owners, and us who frequent the forums (addicted) to the 6.5 :)

I wonder what percentage we are, probably only 1% maybe? No idea.

I see a lot of 6.5's on the road, that don't even wave when I cross paths :) (Good ol' bumper holes)

ON Edit: Large number of drivers/owners that know nothing more about their truck than to put diesel fuel in it, and that the temp to be worried about is 260df.

I've wonder that too.

I wave at the 6.5 trucks to, they must think I'm crazy. I've even pulled over to help a stranded 6.5 when I saw the bumper holes. I stop and talk to any 6.5 owner I see.

Since the pmd is thicker, If you were going to mount it back on the IP the slot would give you the clearence to rotate the IP.

Far too many foks view their rigs as simply a mode of transportation. They have less knowledge about what goes on under the hood than whats happening on the back side of the moon.

Turn the key, if the scenery goes by, their happy. When it stops working, call Triple A

Sheep is right for sure for sure.

Far too many mechanics dont even really understand this stuff.

Just bolt on a new part and get it out the door.

We are indeed the Blessed, Hmmm Maybe the cursed, I don't know.

We spend our time in these forums laymenting over issues of rigs that are in some cases 20 +++ years old.

Technology has blown by us at Warp speed. We are mired in the mud with electronic magic boxes that were marginal in 1994 and here we sit, still trying to keep this old Junk going down the road.

Damn, sure is great Eh :D:D:D

OH BTW I can't understand why anyone would take the time to mount a PMD on the IP when it can resy happily and quite content (cooler too) on a remote mount.

Can not even imagine anyone wanting to waste the time and energy to do that.

Funny you mention that, I am working on a 6.5 turbo diesel that had some work done by a diesel shop, new pump, recal ecu and turbo master and this blows me away-NO gauges were installed, the PMD is mounted on the pump and they reused the old filter harness??????????? WTF? and they are a diesel specialist,:confused::mad2::mad2:
