New 99 Tahoe Z71 2 door 6.5 TD Owner

I don't want to sell my diesel tahoe it's the last year production for the 2 door Tahoe and I heard that in 99 they produced the least amount of 6.5 diesel Tahoe's. Now I don't know how true that is. . .

For the most part, 99 was the last of the GMT400 production run for the SUV, after that it was the GMT800 body and no diesel (except for the rare DMax aftermarket conversion). The pickup and IIRC van went to 2002 where it was possible to get either a GMT400 (with 6.5) or GMT800 (with DMax). After 2002, the 6.5 pretty much went out of production for the automotive market.

Saw a stick 6.5 Ho a few years ago and IIRC asking price was $5K. Posting only lasted about a week.

Oh, and personally I'd drive the Ho as the daily driver when it is ready, but to each their own :) Suspect that after getting all the minimum mods in the 6.5, the diesel Ho will turn into the one for daily *and* fun :D

I don't know if I mentioned here on this forum about the mods the previous owner did. But below is the list of mods by the previous owner and due to the work he did is why so far I have been offered 9k for her and 10.5k from another guy who wants it.
List of mods
- New fuel tank, pickup, fuel injection pump and all 8 injectors. The battery cables replaced and modified to top post battery cables. Holset HX 35 Dodge Cummins turbo. 3 gauge A pilar pod with Auto Meter boost, exhaust gas temp & transmission temp gages. Factory vacuum pump deleted. A none EGR intake manifold. PMD has been relocated to the inside of the front bumber. Remote top mounted oil filter. Front drilled rotors. Serviced rear brakes & new wheel cylinders. Five position transfer case recently replaced. Rebuilt A/C compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer and all hoses were replaced. Replaced oil cooler lines with new oem cooler lines. Pair of PIA Off Road driving lights. 2 front southern comfort power seats. 18" LTZ Chrome wheels.

By the way what is iirc mean or stand for?

Oh yeah the previous owner I bought it for owned it for 3 years and the man he bought it from tried converting it over to run on veggie oil and that was one of the reason he replaced some parts like fuel tank he told me. But she runs real good I am still not used to the noise and vibration from the Diesel engine. The guy the previous owner paid to redo the a/c evaporator messed up the clips on the dash and it rattles bad.

Patrick (business name escapes me) makes rattle stop kit for the dash.

What exhaust and tuning does it have?

The fluid dampner will help vibes but these little guys like to shake, rattle, and roll smoke on start up.

3 inch down pipe stock exhaust. stock ecu. guys here i go again. I just found a 1995 diesel suburban i now want! Maybe I get the suburban and sell my diesel tahoe? Nah I waited to long for the tahoe. I sell my gasser burb and get the diesel burb.

Are there any major differences between the 1995 diesel suburban and my 1999 diesel Tahoe? I know Tahoe has 6 lug suburban should have 8 right? Any difference in towing, etc...

On a 95 you will want to do the dual lift pump relay upgrade. They fixed that in 1996 and newer. A cheap fix from leroydiesel.com or even cheaper if you do it yourself. There are links to schematics online.

But some of the schematics call for cutting and splicing wires. Don't cut and splice if you make your own. Make it like Leroy's - plug and play.

If you order from Leroy you might have to request the prime feature. I can never remember if he builds that in every harness or if you have to ask for it.
In my opinion the upgrade is only half done if you don't add the prime feature.

I also add a toggle switch under the hood to run the lift pump on all of my diesels. Makes priming the fuel filter and doing some diagnostics much easier. And you never half to look for a jumper wire

1995 is OBD1 1996 and newer are OBDII
