I have a 1995 K2500(S-vin) P/u with 6.5l TD. It blew a head gasket. so I bought new heads and also swaped out the old water pump for the dual therm. neck and high flow water pump. All installed well no issues. I went to start it, she cranks perfectly but will not start. No sign of starting at all. just turning over, and over. I replaced Batteries, checked all vacuum lines and also replaced all glow plugs with delcos. she is getting fuel and glows light white hot(tested out of with a ground and they went "hot on" 8-10 secs. - check all wire connections and all grounds. I am lost!! please any help will be appreciated!!

You say she is getting fuel, but getting fuel where? Depending on what you had to take apart to do the head gasket you might still have air in the system. I would first crack an injector line or two and make sure the fuel is getting all the way to the injectors.

thanks

I had two injectors that were not tight enough at first and they were bleeding fuel I have since tightened them with same problem. I then crack one open on the other bank and they too push fuel out when cranking.

OK, I haven't flipped wrenches for a living for a while, and that was mostly gas stuff. The way I see it, if you have compression, and you have fuel coming out the injectors, and it is not firing, I would think it has to be the injection timing at this point.

Assuming it was running/starting okay prior to the head swap I'd look at last maintenance action, all IP lines connected in correct timing/firing order???, all electrical conns & gnds connected???, was IP removed, if so is it back in it's original timing location, rotated to driver side is advance time, pass side it retarded timing, any codes stored to alert timing is too far out of spec, air in totally drained system takes a good while to purge, and doesn't take much to get a no start condition, got solid 12V to the IP shutdown solenoid on top of IP, is that solenoid opening with application of 12v, good gnd with IP mated??? where is driver mounted on IP or remoted???,

OH BTW how about updating signature line so it's easy post to post to know what flavor of 6.5 ride we are dealing with

x2 what TD said. Make sure batts are good and strong and charged. Slow cranking combined with air in fuel and it will never start.

If he is having fuel coming out of the injectors, he either has a SEVERE compression loss or his timing is so back asswards that nothing will fire. ie. injecting at BDC.

As said before. You need to be sure it's actually pumping fuel from the injector lines. When I replaced a injection pump a while back, I had much the same trouble.

I would pop the injection line and it would squirt fuel, but as soon as it was reconnected it the fuel would stop. Turned out I had just enough fuel in the injector lines to spray out when there was no resistance(disconnected) but there was a large pocket of air behind said fuel. Popped the top off the injection pump and low and behold there was no fuel.

If you're absolutely sure it's pumping fuel then you may want to grab a compression tester(make sure it will handle over 450 psi) and ensure you actually have compression in those cylinders!

Funny had same problem with a case backhoe. It would pump fuel from injector lines but no start. Turned out the keyway was spun so as soon as it got resistance the ip wasn't turning. Not that it helps here.

Check your filter canister. Is it full? I would fill it up w/ fuel and fasten the cover. Then take off your fuel cap. Now try cranking. If there is air in the fuel system somewhere the air will work its way back to the tank quickly. Might take 4 or 5 cranking sessions.

Got a problem 94 6.5 td

Problem: Just picked my truck up from getting the heads rebuilt. Drove it 3.5 hours ( 60 % hiway / 40 backroads ) 100 miles ran fine, no problems, got home ( last leg of trip was on a bumpy 5 mile dirt rd. Turned it off after turbo cool down...will not start now, cranks fine, no glow plug indicator light ?, just cranks

Likely a failure in the Glow plug relay or a loose/bad connection.

I would say that possibly the connector came loose on the relay or the relay just failed.

Try a fresh relay and I'll bet it will work fine.

Here is the picture of all the parts. You have to study it, it is not on the first picture.

Your battery needs to be FULLY charged because you will have to crank for a while. 20 sec with 1 min rest type of cranking. You said you don't know, you have to know and make sure.

Did it start before this? Also how old is the PMD on the intake?
