Hey guys, I am new to this site as I am a new C3500HD owner. Well guys, I am wondering if this was a good deal. I thought it was but you tell me. Its a 1997 C3500 HD dump truck. Has brand new tires all the way around, truck has 56,000 miles! It has a 6.5 turbo diesel. The dump bed is not bad, has a little bit of rust that needs to be patched but no big deal. The only kicker is the truck is not running and it has sat for about 1 year. The frame is a little rusty but not all the way through or anything like that, just paint peeing of pretty much. Well the guy said he took it to the dealer and they said it needed a new lift pump and it would be some extensive labor to replace. He said they replaced the fuel pump. Wouldnt the fuel pump be the injection pump? I looked at the lift pump along the frame rail and it looked like it was fairly new to me so im guessing thats what they replaced. Anyways I paid $1500 for the truck. Do you guys think I got a good deal? Also could you tell me the vehicle weight although I know it will vary with different brands of dump bodies. Thanks guys I appreciate it.

thx..I thought it was a pretty good deal. I was thinking the PMD possibly or OPS. Do you know around how much this weighs, I need to pick the truck up and all I have is a trailer with 2 3500lb axles and need to know if the truck is going to overload the trailer to much. Ive had a 96 F-350 powerstroke diesel reg cab on it fine. Just the added weight of the heavy frame and dump body and hoist is what concerns me. Thanks for the help.

if it's just the electric hoist I think you'd be fine at least for a short jaunt. OPS won't be a problem on your 97 but definetly check out pmd, lift pump, filter, and if still not getting fuel sock in tank.

it is a hydraulic hoist..is he electric or hydraulic hoist better. Im guessing a hydraulic is better..able to lift more??

think it would be to much weight for my trailer then..Its a 1 1/2 hour drive. I think I will just rent a heavier trailer. Thanks for all the help.

The truck probably weighs about 8000lbs, so a little over your trailer rating, but would probably do fine. You ever put a ton of weight in the back of a 1/2 ton truck? My C1500 is about 5800lbs with extra bed tank and tool box and 80 gallons of fuel in it.

I agree, probably around 9k, maybe a little under...

You know your roads, your trailer, your route.... Do whats safe. Trailers can always handle more weight then they are rated for.

DOT Cops on the other hand is a different story. If they wanted to be dicks they could have your trailer towed, not to mention the overweight fee.

Some regions and/or routes are more enforceful. Judgment call.

i just towed my newest purchas home yesterday its a 2000 ccdually with a bradfordbuilt flatbed, i guessed it to weigh between 9 and 10K. the trailer lights werent working so i took back highways to avoid the scales and "hopefully" the DOT. it worked out but i never got the actuall weight

well I got the truck home just fine. It was a bit heavy for my trailer but it handled it like a champ. Chevy cowboy, my trailer lights didnt work either and I had to go the major interstates. I just hoped DOT didnt stop me either and it all worked out good. Now time to start diagnosing.
