Need new tires - Michellins/Firestones/Cooper?

Keep us posted... I only have experience with the Michelin LTX when buying tires. They wear like iron on pavement; 70-80k out of a set seems to be normal if you're not doing smoky burnouts every other day. They aren't for mud or snow regardless of what the name says however.

I'm looking to change the next time I'm due for tires and would be curious to hear how you like the Firestones. 99.99% of my driving is on the highway, so I don't really want an AT tire.

Personally I have had absolute terrible experiences with Firestone's on pickups starting in 1984 all the way to 2005. To the point I will never drive a vehicle with them on. Blowouts, belt separation, sidewall failure, tread chunks falling off.

I've had good luck with Cooper and Les Schwab.

Use to run Big-O until a few years ago when I went through 3 80,000 mile sets on my car in 1 year. They kept replacing under warranty but WTF is a 80,000 mile tire doing wearing out at 15,000? No alignment issues either.

Well I just got them installed - I should have went bigger :)
The sidewalls on these don't 'give' like the generals do. The generals (of the same size) looked closer together in the rear than these do.
I'm being overly picky - it's really a minuscule change!

The ride is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!! My truck has NEVER EVER rode this nice. It doesn't pick up EVERY bump and bruise in the road anymore.
I had the tires installed 30 miles away from my house, on a road I drive every single day. So I know exactly where to 'brace' myself for a bump... not anymore.
They are SO quiet, seriously. Radio off, AC off, all windows closed and ALL i can hear is a bit of normal wind noise and the turbo whistle... there's NO tire noise to be heard.

I'm STOKED, I love these things performance wise - I havent hammered it or took any corners or anything as I'm waiting for them to break in a bit. The truck feels so steady, the road comes right through the wheel (in a good way) and it just feels so different.

They are NOT the sportiest/prettiest tire in the world... the firestone logo's fine; the transforce HT I could live w/out :)

I'll have to get some pictures!

Jason, were your other tires inflated to the same tire pressure as the new tires? It could be just a tire pressure issue. Good luck with them!

I have Michelin LTX M/S tires on my wife's 04 Suburban 2500, and my 96 Caprice. They have been on for about 6 months each and they are great so far.

The suburban cost $875 installed with free life-time balance/rotation , road hazard, free repairs, and metal valve stems.

The Caprice was $600 with all of the above plus 80,000 mile warranty.

I wish that Michelin made this tire in a 255/85/16 I would buy 7 of them for my dually...tomorrow! You listening Michelin? :D

AS it is, I will probably buy this tire for the dually in 235/75/16 this fall.
