Man, I love my truck but these general's lasted me only 43,000 miles!!!:icon_bs:

I NEED new tires, BAD! I'm NOT looking forward to the grand it's going to cost me so I want to get the most for my money.

I have a local tire shop that I trust, but, I don't think they tow horse trailers (or heavy loads) around like you and me do so I'm not going to take their word in stone.

I'm going with the stock size to alleviate any type of problems or issues i may have with rubbing.
215/85/r16 - They are load range E

I have it narrowed down to:
Michellin LTX M/S (someone at my ranch has them on their dually and LOVES them)
Firestone Transforce H/T (I saw a great review of them on tirerack and a friend also has them; but hasnt had them long enough to tell me about them)
Cooper Hercules (I have another person at the ranch that had coopers for 6 months and then they were TRASHED; so I'm leaning against them...)

Ok, Here's the fun part - $$$$
I know i can get it online cheaper but if I DO have problems I'd rather have a place I can go to!

Michellins LTX M/S - $198.00 per TIRE
Firestone Transforce H/T - $147.00 per TIRE
Cooper Hercules - $131.95 per TIRE including a free road hazard warranty

Ok, what I'm looking for:
I'm a stickler for quiet smooth riding... I DONT want to hear these things.
I don't do off roading, every place that's off the asphalt seems to have compacted hard soil unfortunately :)
I tow about 14k right now it seems every freaking weekend for horse shows that ARENT close to home. I need reliability.

What're your thoughts?? :)

Are you opposed to all terrains? I only ask because BF's are very quiet and they're wearing very well. Plenty of grip off road.

X2 on what Nick said, for that money I would go with All terrains, other than that I hate the Firestone tires I have(destination MT). I have had a lot of issues with quality with them. My next tire will be BfG AT or cooper stt.

My first set of A/T's were Mastercraft Courser's. I bought them new back in 04, shortly after I bought my old LLY. I got about 25k our of them and they were pretty much slicks. Funny thing though is I never realized just how loud they were until I switched to BF's on that truck. BF's are so quiet, its unbelievable. So, when I traded in, it was a no brainer which brand to choose.

Are those prices installed? They seem a little high for just the tires.

I'd go with the Michellins. A tire shop on my route has one they replaced at 130,000 and it still would pass inspection. They are on my shopping list.

I'm NOT opposed to an A/T tire. With that said, I LOVE the fact that I can hold a conversation in the cab of a diesel crew cab where I don't have to shout. I'd love to keep that.

i had Michellins, i believe they were the stock tires on my truck, before and just recently put on BFG All terrains. my experiences are that the Michellins gave a better ride. i find that the BFG definitely firmed up my ride and i feel a lot more of the bumps. with that said i like that because i found my truck to be too mushy before. also with the Michellins i got over 50,000 miles and liked that about them as well. i got good millage with them and they were a light tire so i did well fuel wise. since i put the BFG's on i have seen a decrease of about 3 MPG with the BFG's. also you have to keep in mind that the previous tires were a lighter tire compared to the new ones partially because i went with a load range E tire because my tire guy felt i would get a longer life.

hope my limited insight helps a bit.

Repeat on the BFG ATs. 75k last set and they're very quiet. D range seem to get better longevity than Es. They do take away 1 or 2 mpg due to rolling resistance though but I need the performance on snow and they've proven that many times!

All of the following based on personal experience:

If you need an A/T: BFG KO's, no question, best in snow (on my truck now)
If not: Mich M/S excellent manners, quiet, and great treadwear (on wife's 3/4 ton Burban now)

Coopers: I don't know, mixed reviews from my buddies, I have not owned any in 12-15 yrs.

Edit: make sure you look at the tread depth on the specification charts, there can be 2/32 to 4/32 difference between sizes/load range for a given tire.

Well guys, thank you so much for your input!!!

As much as I want the Michellin's I REALLY think the Firestone Transforce H/T's will be what I need for the money and what will work for me.

I may get the mich's of T/a's if money gets better any time soon.

I drop the p-up tomorrow for it's new shoes!
It looked like on Tirerack EVERYTHING got a better rating than these general ameri-traks I got on here now.
