OK the stock tune in my 95 Tahoe from what i undertsand limits the truck to like 81 MPH. It used to cut out like someone was shutting it off. When I bought the chip from Heath it cured that and Bill confirmed that it was the stock chip. Here is my issue. I need authortative proof that the 6.5 euipped truck can't go over 81 mph. The tune is stock on my 2000 and a scumbag cop in MA gave me an "estimated" (no radar) of 90 mph in a 65. My lawyer said if i could find authorotavie proof of the governed tune that GM put in I could probably get the ticket dropped because it would cast doubt. Anybody know if it's in a GM manual somewhere or a TSB ?

All I found in the 94 GM manual is 0-98 MPH in PCM data values. I know that I had a stock L65 "F" chip and I went over 80MPH a lot, maybe to a little over 90 and I never had any cut out.

tire height will also screw with to where actual and what speedo/PCM thinks is different.

stefan of Engh Motors would probably know more since he has a lot of the stock programs files that he modifies personally. Hes on here.

Unfortunately I seem to remember going over 81 a few times myself when the truck was "new to me" - to the best of my knowledge it was a stock tune - everything else was bone stock and once I added gauges, it boosted like a stocker. Sorry.

Unless, could it be an "S" vs "F" thing? Meaning, was your Tahoe "S"? Maybe GM customer service could also help?

Maybe something was wrong withmy truck. It was Bill H who told me about this. Or maybe cause my truck was a municipal edition ? I'll call Bill today and see if I can get some clarity. I remember when he sold me the V2 he said it would take care of that and it did.

OK, well that negates the "S vs F" theory. So maybe it wasn't a governnor-related issue that kept you at 81. That does seem rather low for a governor to kick in.

ALl SUBURBANS are F engines, so it may still be an s vs f thing. I know my 95 SUB with 4.10 gears wouldn't shut off until the governor hit somewhere around 95-98.

I was referring to Mountain Lion's - his is an S.

98 mph? That's "ringing a bell" as if I've heard that number mentioned before in relation to governed speed. That very well could be the right number.

My bad I got PGGURU and NVM confused. I don't know exactly what the speed cut-off is, I just know around 98 I was turning right at 3300 with my 245/75/16's and the governor for the fuel system shut it down.

98 was my max limit when I was stock S programmed, now it's not the mph limiting me it 3400 rpm, before I added the big bumper limit there was 119mph, haven't tried running that fast since adding ATT & FTB, and the snapped axle scare.

bill is the best person to call for this kinda thing as he will be able to make it all clear and his word is about the best in the buisness.

I hate to break it to ya, but my 6.5 has been up to 3400 rpms (in nuetral) and there was no sign of stopping. I still had alot of throttle left. I've been past 90 as well, but not by much, And again, she coulda kept rolling. And my truck is ex-Air Force.

my 98 z28 was limited from the factory to 120mph. that said the z28 ss was unlimited so it was a model change but mostly due to the tire speed rating. maybe gm had the same deal for trucks but even a cop could tell the judge the factory puter can be swapped. my hypertech programmer got rid of the speed limiter. so although you might have a good argument i don't think it will help you. Ed

My 97 Z28 aint got a governor :) Seen over 150MPH on it.

i also seen over 150mph, was very nice driving home from vegas. but it would not do it with 16 inch tires as that was factory limited with those tires. untill i bought the hypertech. it programmed in quite a few features from rear end gearing to tire size to correct the speedo. what sucked was i could not feel any acceleration differences in stock vs hypertech programming. that made me very leery about spending coin for an hp4 from heaths. i did get one and would recommend all 6.5 owners get one. Throttle left or not, it would rev-limit it right around 3400.

They only way to over rev these (and most computerized diesels) is to downshift while going down a large highway grade and let gravity and the lower gear go past the 3400 range.

Unless of course you have some sort of program that eliminated the rev-limiter.

When I bought my truck and shortly after started stalling, (lol), I got so made so many times that I revved that engine till it was governed out so many times... trying to get it to break up or miss....

Now it barely ever sees 2500. And never stalls, FWIW :)

Yeah I think I'm screwed. Mass lawyer wants 1200$ but I got a CDL so I guess I don't have a choice but to pay him. The only thing I'm not sure about is if Mass Speeding tickets go on CT liscense. Have heard both yes and no. Can't take the chance that it will so I was hoping for a miracle. I know stock my Tahoe would not do over 85 IIRC. After the chip there is no limit.
