So i was kind of looking for another engine for me 93 1 Ton and happened across a K-2500 Ext Cab Long Box, minor body damage on the driver side cab corner, it's a silverado with all the options. Guy said transmission was missing 3rd and 4th. I ended up paying him $300 for the truck and hauled it home on the trailer. Got it down off the trailer last night put a plate on it and went for a drive... well it seems 3rd and 4th are actually there. so I pulled all the codes last night there is a bunch of them:

29, 32, 33, 44, 45, 48, 57, 62, 85.

It came with a spare intake, 2 injections pumps, 3 pmd's, and a spare turbo. Someone has wired in a high idle switch as well to idle it up. I need to fix the steering column as you can't pull it all the way down to 1st.. it binds up somewhere I figure probably in the tilt. minor issue.. anyways he told me he was running down the highway at 120KM/H and it wasnt in OD so he went to move it up into OD and went to far and into Reverse for a split second and then back into OD. so based on that information I am expecting to maybe do a Tranny... but it slips just a tad and has all of the gears. This truck also has a 3" straight pipe. just shy of 539KM on the dash currently. no smoke on cold start or warm start, a bit of black if you step on it, but no other smoking issues... sounds like it is going to explode when you first start it and then it settles right down. (my nieghbours 6.5TD blazer does this as well).

My 93 dosnt sound like that at all, but it smokes on startup, and even has blowby out of the oil dipstick after being shut down for 15 minutes. that is going to be another thread though.

So I guess where do I start with all the codes and getting this thing running and driving right. I might sell the 1 Ton after I get this one up and running good, or give the 1 ton to my brother in-law...

almost all of those codes deal with egr or boost or Iat. does it still have a vac pump? if so check vacuum at the pump and at the selenoids. sounds like a loss of vacuum some where.

Get a scan tool on it to see if the pressure regulator solenoid[force motor] is working. A bad input speed signal can cause slipping also. What year is it? I think you were in the right place at the right time to get it that cheap. More like stole it for $300. Has to be worth more than that for scrap.

it is a 95, and I can get $700 for it driving it into the pick n pull here... I am going to run it by the trans shop in the morning and get them to scan it with the proper scanner, I figured it is the input speed sensor as well (blew the output speed sensor on the 93 1 ton last summer). vac pump is hooked up and looks new, wastegate solenoid is new for it as well, found another new pmd in the center storage bin. owners manual was in the glove box as well. I figure the extra clacking when first firing it up cold is the ip being too far advanced and I may retard it. I think I will also clear the codes today and see what reappears for codes. can't find an egr on it anywhere so I will have to trace down this vac leak or where it is tripping all of the boost, iat, and egr codes from. seems to trip the check engine light when first cold and then after it warms up a bit the light goes out

Is this a close friend that owns the transmission shop or very trusted. Their favorite words are: it needs a TOTAL rebuild.
It takes a tech 1 or Tech 2 or GMTD Scantech to check everything accuratly. I wouldn't trust other scan tools on a 94-95 6.5. If you have a laptop computer GMTDscantech is the way to go. Plenty of members here have it and love it.

X2 on the GMTD scan it's the best diagnostic tool I have.

The EGR codes maybe due to either someone swapped out the S intakes for F or the computer? Does the vin # have an F or S in it? Might want to run the vin # on it to gain some history.

trans shop I trust, on my 93 one trans shop told me complete rebuild and this shop scanned it and said do the output sensor and fluid/filter.. it's been good since then on that truck so I trust them to scan this truck at least and let me know what is going on with this trans. and they dont charge anything for the scan. if it needs a rebuild then I'll either rebuild it myself or put a used one in it.

With a 95 you only need a "F" or reprogrammed chip. But as long as the EGR solenoids are plugged in and the map sensor on the firewall has vacuum to it[and all vac lines for egr plugged] it should be fine. Rather odd that a 8 lug truck would have a egr. Canadian may be different from US for that.

well think I may have messed up on that. the eighth digit is "F" and the 10th is "S" so if reading the vin from left to right then it is a "F" truck. But if reading it from the right to left (last 8 of the vin) then it is a "S".

anyone got a vacum diagram for these? as far as I can tell there is only the 1 vac line from the pump to the turbo waste gate. I will pickup a vac gauge though and make sure it is not on the intake side somewhere.

easy test of the vac system is the actuator on the turbo should be really hard to move at idle. there will be only 2 lines on an f truck 1 from the vac pump to the selenoid and 1 from the selenoid to the turbo

had the truck to the tranny shop for the code 85.. they couldn't find anything wrong with it and said to due a service. What they did say is it felt like the engine was cutting out for a brief second or two but they didnt believe it was the tranny... any ideas on what may cause it to cut out for a second or two. I am thinking the IP is too far advanced.

Lift pump not working or not working good enough. Boost not coming on as it should. Check for cracked plastic vacuum lines from vac pump to solenoid and to turbo. Not always easy to see the cracks.

replaced the baro sensor and cleared the codes again, now I am only getting codes 44 and 45. So I am thinking replace the plastic vacuum lines with rubber ones, then I dont have to look for the cracks in the plastic if they are replaced. what else would cause the 2 codes? lift pump seems to be working okay.

oh the other thing... where is best place in canada to get the pmd extension harness and then I will actually hook up the fsd cooler that is sitting under the hood since the pmd is still hooked up on the injection pump. the other thing I was thinking is maybe I am sucking air from the fuel filter area as it seems to be covered in diesel...
