My 6.5 is sputtering

Have you checked all the grounds ? The one on the back of the intake will play havoc. ALso you describe sputtering...Any smoke with that ? Black grey white ??

no smoke, it used to smoke white and grey pretty bad until i changed the pmd (I think) and relocated to the top of the manifold. I will do the clear return line check this morning

well I just got back from fueling up. my thought was even though I had 1/4 in the tank maybe something was up with the float. well It stalled on me about 6 times on my way there, when I finally got there I filled it, she started and died a couple of times then started right up and took me home no problem, no sputtering at all. my whole ride to fuel up I had a scan tool hooked up and no codes came up at all??? When I got home I reved the engine a little and i'm still getting the sputtering. With the engine running, if I open up the breather on top of the fuel filter, should fuel come up? None did when I tried it. I shut the truck off and pulled the filter out, then turned the key on and fuel came up into the housing, but not very much or strong. I am on my way out to check the lift pump with a fuel pressure gauge.

What about the last ditch filer screen?.....Can't remember who, but there was a member that said the crud was so bad, he couldn't even scrape it off without breaking the mesh screen.

That may be the cause of the sputtering, with combined low fuel pressure.

Anyone remember who the cruded filter screen belonged too?

should fuel come out even with the truck ideling? or it won't come out the bleed screw because fuel is being sucked into the IP?

ok guys i thought i already sent this. I went out to check pressure of lift pump this morning. I started the truck to let it warm up, then I put on gauge and opened the t-handle, Nothing came out. I took off gauge with truck still running and t-handle open and still nothing. I closed t-handle and shut truck off. then I turned key on (to prime) and reattatched the gauge and it read 2. im guessing a new lift pump is needed. i've heard that AC DELCO is the way to go. I also heard that I should get one for a 1993 even though mine is a 97, is this true and will it fit exact or are there modifications that need to be done

does my truck have a mass air flow sensor? I put in a new lift pump this morning, and the truck still sounds like its getting air in the lines

As far as I know only the late model S (emissions) trucks have MAF; possibly some of the "green destination" F 2500 trucks that have the EGR may also have it, but a 3500 would not have it

Thanks guys. the lines from fuel tank to lift pump are new since Aug of this year, also the float in tank assembly. Hey Turbine Doc thanks for all the great help. took truck out tonight, no sputtering or bucking, but I did notice a decrease in power
