Muffler or Straight Pipe?

I always say the louder the better lol. I got a 4 inch straight pipe and 3 inch downpipe and dual 6 inch stacks with the hx 35 turbo. Tons of whistle I turn the radio down to listen to it ):h. At low rpms my truck rattles the plastic above the back glass lol. I've never heard my truck outside of the cab tho so i'm not real sure wut it sounds lyk.

I always say the louder the better lol...

I used to say that, but the sound doesn't much matter to me anymore. I don't like driving a vehicle that is silent in the cab (some are), but I just need enough noise to hear what the engine is doing. If it needs to be loud to produce the power I want, that's OK too.

I ordered the Warpspeed 4" system today, with the muffler & crossover. I'm going to put the muffler on, and it will probably stay, but I can always chop it out later. FedEx cost me $100, but they said the box is too big for the Post Office to take, so I had no choice.

Thanks to all those who chimed in on the topic.

I did have just some straight pipe, then you need the 3" to 4" adaptor, and straight pipe wont fit straight back, has to be offset close to the frame so it wont vibrate where it needs to fit above the crossmembers, then you have to bring it back several inches towards the driveshaft if you want to put a tailpipe on it over the axle.

If you dont have extended cab or long bed maybe you dont have that second crossmember so its not an issue.

Warpspeed called me back, and they said the Fedex charges would be $200, not $100. :mad2:
I ordered the Diamond Eye kit from Treasure Valley Diesel instead. They UPS'ed it to California, and my vacationing Bro-in law is going to take bring it back here on the airliner. I did still buy the crossover from Warpspeed, and they're sendimg it to AK via Parcel Post for $15.

I'm very happy with my diamond eye.

Get everything EXACTLy where you want it when you install it BEFORE you tighten any clamps. You ahve only one shot at it.

Also, I painted it all with Rustoleum High Temp (1200df) paint. Flat black, has picture of a grille on it. I recommend doing a coat on the ground real good, then a few more after install. Its been 3-4 months and still looks flat black freshly painted.

Highly recommend doing that.

Then go under it again a month later, and paint it again, in case there was any oil spots. It'll be burned off.

Remove the Passenger side fender wheel well, great view of downpipe.

I needed new turbo clamp, my nut was non existant. GM sells a Stainless steel clamp, with a non stainless nut on it...................what a joke.

That's a great idea. I've used that paint for all kinds of stuff, but hadn't considered that.
They now make it not only in black, but white, green, silver, and almond too.

strap wrenches help if you slide something together and want to pull them apart

Problem is the cheapy clamps leave a huge indent on the top of the U part of the clamp. Even if you could pull them apart, you'd have a hell of a time putting it back in.

If noise is no biggy then save the $$$$$$ and run it straight back.

The 6.5 with a straight large diameter pipe can get a tad loud even running through the turbo.

I have thought about dual 6 inch stacks on DaHoooley maybe Seven inch.

MGW

7 inch stacks would be bad ass only if they were shorter than the cab. i hate trucks with these big honking stacks that are 5 feet higher than the cab.

im thinking of a 3inch downpipe to 4 inch exhaust but after the 4 inch muffler get a adapter that goes from 4 to 5 inch and run a 5 inch exhaust in front of rear tire. maybe slap on a 6 inch tip. i try to be different.

FWIW, when I FINALLY removed my GM bent downpipe, I fired it up before I installed the bu t full flowmaster one just to hear it: Not much different than straightpiped. Reved it a couple of times, to 2500 or so, not bad. I know it's not the same as pushing 12psi @ turbo, but just my $0.02

Hoped for the sound of a feul altered dragster. ;-(

I say straight pipe it. Ebay 380 bucks to my door. 2.5 inch crossover (Warpspeed), 3inch down and 4 inch from there to aft of the rear tire (diamond eye). I couldn't be happier with my set up. My neighbors REALLY love me now:thumbsup:
