Mods/unmods to my 95/99 6.5's? Need advice.

GM did some rather crazy things with the Suburban brakes. . .

Whatever you do with your brakes make sure you upgrade the front brakes before the rear brakes. Upgrading the rear brakes first could easily upset the front/rear bias. You don't want the rears locking up before the fronts do their job.

Not necessarily. If the proportioning valve is OE, it is not delivering enough pressure to the rear anyway, so jumping to a better setup (if applicable) will only help. Once it has the correct proportioning valve, then things will get good.

First off, since you dont tow much or at all right now, I would simmer down on any towing upgrades.

X-2. Unless you want to dump a lot of funds in the vehicles all at once, then go for it. Otherwise plan out the phases and time upgrades with normal repairs so there is a minimum of throwing away of working parts.

Also, keep reliable tow company contact information at the ready as you are choosing to drive a set of vehicles that are far from new, so have a plan-B at the ready ;)

Thank you all. Not really able to think right now. Had two biopsy's this morning at 6:00 am. Thank god my prostate is fine. Something is up with my bladder & I need surgery which is scheduled in the first week of March. So my health comes first before any ride or even any lady!

First off, how much money can you allocate for the project? Will we see your name in the obituary if you spend too much? Got any kids?

Yes I have 2 sons 15 and 16 years old. I am willing to put as much into her as I have to but do it one step at a time logically like you suggest.

First off, since you dont tow much or at all right now, I would simmer down on any towing upgrades.

I would save money and spend it on reliability boosting upgrades.

No point doing upgrades when I have leaks and regular maintenance issues that need to be addressed.

If I was you, my immediate plan of action would be:

Keep the diesel tahoe, and the burb.
Have the Tahoe for sale right now. Doesn't mean I am going to sell her. She sits real nice in the garage and that's where she'll stay. Unless I get a serious buyer.

On both, inspect harmonic balancer and pulley, and oil cooler lines. address any leaks, get everything squared away on filter and fluid changes (fresh brake fluid, PS fluid, maybe trans, etc. hold off coolant change, it will be changed soon enough doing cooling upgrades. :) ) and any front end work needed.
Essentially get all basic maintenance squared away before upgrading, then start in on modifications.

First I need to put the glow plugs back to stock and rewire the controllers back to stock. Then I want to do like you suggest above.

tahoe plan:
1) Keep the turbo, and using car-part.com, find a junkyard to get the f code upper and lower intake to delete the EGR.
2) My personal opinion, (likely to be opposed. :) ) convert back to OEM GP controller. sounds like it needs new GPS too, AC Delco 60G or Bosch Duraterm.
3) new filter nut from Leroy, and get a new metal lid filter.

Suburban plan:
1) K47 airbox
2) Leroy's Lift pump relay kit.
3) start saving up for cooling system upgrades. The good thing is by waiting, you will be able to dive right in with Leroy's upcoming electromagnet engaged fan clutch and not waste any money on a viscous fan clutch.
You will need to go with the AC Delco 88894035 pump (OEM for a model year 2000 6.5L), your choice in fans, wither the OEM for 97+ 9 blade steel, or the poly Duramax fan.
4) also save up for towing/ performance upgrades, the A-Team turbo is a favorite, along with a Diamond Eye exhaust.

Having a multi-vehicle fleet is black hole for $, so spend wisely. :)

The tahoe already has a non EGR Upper and lower intake. The tahoe has the stock GP set up and starts awesome! Its the 95 6.5 burb that needs the stock GP set back up.

Today been really busy with work. The 6.5 Tahoe might be gone by Monday I have a cash offer on it. Guy needs to see if he gets the loan.

Sound input right ^^^^^^ here.

A loan for a 17 year old vehicle . . .? Aye Carrumba! :wideyed:

But then again, getting anywhere near 10K for it is impressive.

Would not mind switching over to a Ho and dropping a stick in it for daily driving. But if they truly are commanding that much of a premium, can get farther with the $$$ and keep the current daily driver :)

Had two biopsy's this morning at 6:00 am. Thank god my prostate is fine.

Glad to see that piece of the plumbing is Ok ;)

That loan thing confused me too, unless from a family member or something. 10 years old is most I've ever heard of.

He got approved for a loan for a total of $4100. Says he is going to sell his car and then he will buy it. I don't really care if the Tahoe doesn't sell because she sits real pretty in my garage and soon enough I'll put time and money into her and then if someone wants to buy her... Well.... She won't be very cheap. lol..

I need to sell two vehicles because I have 6. Between all the cars and other crap going on in my life I feel like I can't think or focus on anything.

Okay I'm guessing this is where I use a paper clip as my jumper between a and b for code read outs but mine isn't labeled with any letters.

Okay I googled the pins and read the codes....
Here we go.
29 glow plug relay fault
49 service throttle lamp fail
62 turbo boost sensor low
78 turbo waste gate solenoid fault
81 trans 1-2 shift solenoid circuit

Okay this is where I am going to start on my 1995 6.5 Burban

If you have a vacuum gauge check the lines from the vac. pump to the solenoid and at the waste gate solenoid. Likely the reason for 62 & 78.

I would clean all the grounds, esp. the ones on the intake manifold by the trans. dipstick.
