LOL nice work! I'm surprised they don't put a limit. Unless the mark-up is just that high... IF MOBIL-1 is helping to relieve the cost to the stores, they must be counting on the fact that most believe once you go synthetic, you can't go back. Which is wives tale.

True, total wives tale.

FWIW over at a Porsche site I frequent Mobil 1 is getting a bad name. It appears it is the cause of premature lifter failure in some (knowledgeable) guys opinion...Mobil 1 is recomendend oil from Porsche, but I have also heard that that designation is usually got for a price.$$$ Currently I am using Castrol synthetic in the Porsche and Dino in the 6.5 and the Cummins.

I went in to my local kragen today to see what types of synthetic diesel oil they had and I was looking at the mobil 1 filters and almost bought a couple but I saw the bosch ones just above them and the bosch filter to 99.9% and the mobil 1's filter to 99.2%. The bosch are 1/2 the cost of the mobil 1. Looks like the best value for your buck.

Must be why its blowing up Porshe's spinning 9k rpm :)

I don't believe the marketing hype.

I recall some of the unbiased comparisons show that you generally get what you pay for. The Mobil 1 is a well-constructed filter with unique filter material which is supposedly better.

I'd be wary of the claims on the boxes.

-Rob :)

How ironic. A friend of mine just got his Cayenne bought back as a lemon from Porsche. Plus he got about $150k for his troubles. It was the 1st vehicle Porsche has taken back in nearly 20 years. His engine blew up at 10,000 miles to start his woes. The manufacturer said that the oil change intervals are every 20k miles. That is where the problem is. There isn't a filter out there that will work good for that long.

I'm not disagreeing w/ you because I know exactly what you're talking about. There are truth in advertising laws. This tells me there has to be truth in the # on the box. The key is how the test was done and what protocols did they use. Were they standard universal protocols and procedures used industry wide or was it their own standard. That is what I want to know, how they tested it.

That's absolutely absurd. I'm sure its not easily accessable by any means either.... Just a hunch. And Porsche looks alot better than porshe. I knew something was amiss.

I also always read very high readings from M-1 filters. Quality, filtration consistency, and high efficency, including soot particles.

Matt,

I don't understand your comment here. Are you saying that when you do oil analysis that the Mobil 1 filters don't do well? Can you clarify, please?

-Rob :)

We don't have Advance here, but the Wally-Mart has Mobil-1 gallon jugs for $22 each.
Try to "pour" some conventional oil at -50 F, ond you'll find it's thicker than toothpaste. That's reason enough for me to use synthetics.

There are oil filtration systems that are good for 60k miles. Not all setups are created equal.

Here is the maint frequency:
Cayenne (since Model Year 2003)
Engine oil every 20,000 km or every 2 years (excluding 3.2L Cayenne V6 which has variable intervals, as displayed on the instrument panel.)
Spark plugs every 40,000 miles or every 4 years for Cayenne and for Cayenne Turbo, every 60,000 miles or every 4 years for Cayenne S
Oil-filter element every 20,000 miles or every 2 years (excluding 3.2L Cayenne V6 which has variable intervals, as displayed on the instrument panel.)
Air-filter element every 80,000 miles or every 4 years
Fuel filters are maintenance-free
Coolant does not require changing

Are you saying that the filter specified by Porsche is not satisfactory for these frequencies? On what are you basing your opinion?
