Mobil 1 15W40 Full Synthetic Diesel Oil

Dam @BIGR that looks like our wally world!

here at my work we have an account direct with ExxonMobil. I have been concidering reaching out to them to see if it would be cheaper in the long run to order myself 5 gal buckets of oil or gallons from them. or from our fuel vendor. they have their house brand texaco but also carry other brands too.
Whenever possible buy in metal containers instead of plastic for longer term storage

Yesterday, in walflart. I see that they had two one gallon, may have been five quart, jugs of Rotella T-6 oil, it was in the 15-40 blend but I guess that would be better than no oil.
They also had two jugs of the T-5 in 15-40 too.
The T-6 was near $60.00 a jug and I dont remember the T-6 5-40 being near that high in price. Seemsd to me it may have been under $30.00 a jug.

I did find a 5 gallon bucket of Mobil Delvac 15-40 and several gallon jugs. Before the big gouge went into affect on those. Grabbed them up as it didnt seem like there would be much oil available.
YUP, a PANIC purchase for sure.
I've bought a few 55 gallon drums over the years. They were always cheaper in the long run.
Handier than 5 gallon buckets.

It sounds like you should be fine using the oil. I had a similar experience a couple of years back when a store had a sale on Mobil 1 TD 5W-40 oil by the gallon. I bought several cases and used it as needed over time. Everything looked normal, with no sediment or issues from sitting. As long as the oil is sealed nice and tight, it should be okay.

You might also consider trying some of the new fully synthetic diesel oil <ink removed> It offers excellent protection and performance for a variety of engines, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently. Give it a shot and see how it works for you!
I think you will be ok using the oil. A couple of years back a store had a sale on Mobil 1 TD 5w40 oil by the gallon. I bought several cases. I used it when I needed it throughout the course of time. Everything looked normal. No sediment or anything from sitting.
As long as it is sealed nice and tight you'll be OK.
Maybe try some of the new synthetic 15w40 oil???

I got in on the 5w40 by the gallon deal.

Found out later, the quarts were even cheaper.

It's good to hear you didn't face any issues using the Mobil 1 TD 5W-40 oil. If it's well-sealed and properly stored, it should be fine to use. However, using a synthetic 15W-40 could be a good idea if it matches your engine’s requirements. In transmission systems, using the correct oil is crucial for smooth operation, just like using (Removed Link) in an I-Shift transmission ensures optimal performance and protection. Always check the manufacturer's guidelines to be sure!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's good to know that 5w-40 conventional oil can maintain its quality over time if properly sealed. I've heard similar stories about older oils staying effective as long as they're stored well. I’m currently considering sticking with 5w-40 conventional oil for my setup because of its reliable performance in both cold and high temperatures. However, I might look into the synthetic 15w-40 option, as you suggested, just to compare. Thanks again for the insight—it’s always helpful to hear how these oils hold up in real-world conditions!

I must have got something different. The 5w40 Mobile I got was full synthetic

There is a flavor of 5w-40 made for VW diesels. not sure if it's full syn, blended, or dino oil. the PD engines like in the Jetta we have has a requirement to have a high amount of ZDDP or zinc due the the cam. iirc the VW spec is 505.01 or some such. though Rotella T6 5w-40 doesn't carry that spec, according to the VW forums, lots of folks are running it with success. that's what we have been using.
