I just found out about this 15W40 Fully Synthetic Mobil 1 Diesel oil. I have mostly used the 5W40 Turbo Diesel Oil since new.
I just haven't hear of this new Oil.
Anyone using it that can report on it?
Mobil makes it, and I think a few other manufacturers make some.
I always thought the full Synthetic diesel oil was 5W40. Learn something new every day...

I'm not familiar with the mobil 1 too much as a brand, but have heard some good things about it. currently my first time running with the mobil 1 5-40 synthetic and I have no complaints. I have actually used the rotella t6 on a vehicle in the past, a 4runner. yeah I know it was a gasser and not meant for diesel oil, but in my defense I had the jugs sitting there and the 4runner needed an oil change.

me being the one to think, it's sitting there in my garage why not put it to use. lol. half way through it's run on that oil, one morning I went to leave for work, cranked it up and the motor was ticking. shut it off and checked the oil. had to add about 4 extra quarts to get it up to the full mark. something that vehicle had never done before. I had crawled all over it looking to see where the oil had went thinking it has a bad leak. Nothing, it ether burnt it or evaporated!!

later in my research I found out that some oils actually can evaporate to a point, some more than others. but it still didn't explain 4 quarts missing within 2500 miles and no evidence of a leak.

Any oil that's in stock now is better than the "nothing" I have been seeing.

I have very good UOA numbers from the Shell T6 15W40 in the 2018 Cummins. As it's "Out Of Stock" I have ordered the AMSOIL signature 15W40. The 15W "base" is thicker than a 5W and does not need as much polymers that can sheer down in use.

All this running out of stuff- food, materials for work, engine oil.. preperation for the coming marxism & communism.
I had read stories of how the USSR was back in the days of communism. It seems that we are exactly in that same predicament here now in the USA, or is that now the USSA ?

A guy at work grew up in couple Eastern block counties. Was used to it. Now here but just went to vacation in Cuba just before covid blew up. Had a friend tell him where to get this amazing sandwich. He went there every morning and they waited on the food delivery. He was there 12 days- never got to have that sandwich, always something else they would make based on whatever showed up.
Kinda funny because he said they are so used to making everything from almost nothing that whatever he ate tasted good. And he said he was questioned by authorities a couple times but “It no bothers me, am used to it. You Will, you would loose mind! Probably life too when you hit them and they shoot you!” Haha

Thinking about how they make everything from scraps wether its food or fixing a car, no wonder they can be atheists: they can swallow the lie that everything came from nothing. Because they get close to that on a daily basis! Haha

I'll try to steer it back to oil! not that it's about mobil 1, but I know others have talked about using a centrifuge to clean the oil and put it right back in the motor. has anyone done this and or sent in samples to see if the oil can be safely re-used where it's not removing needed compounds in the oil? or the effects on before and after?

yeah I know that still threw it off the rails lol but here is this part.

here at work we use Mobil Delvac 15-40 in everything from the toad trucks to gas cars all the way down to small gas powered pressure washers and such. though it's not synthetic, we have not had a engine failure due to the oil. we order it in bulk that goes into our above ground tank farm.

 OOPS. Sorry.

I never had problems with either valvoline or mobile1. But never heard of the fully synthetic one yet.

On the centrifuge- the one style that is affordable uses the incoming oil flow/ pressure as the means of spinning it. There is a chart that I saw many moons ago showing rpm to micron separation. I keep hoping one of you college boys could school us basic dudes some info on that. Because if we could find that info- we can get the numbers form the manufacturer that says X rpm occurs at Y pressure. Then we would be able to see how well we clean the oil at our rpm driving down the hiway. Which is the ideal scenario for a truck. Peak performance is higher pressure than we normally get, but here is a video showing the 95psi basically being 9500rpm.

btw, i typed and erased a big paragraph about stupid cheap 6.5 cam bearings and wishing there was a better option. So I am working on keeping one set of train wheels on the track at least...haha

I watched one of leroy's videos he did years back where it had installed one of these doodads. He was running the supply from the OPS using a tee. any thoughts on this? I don't think he is still selling these kits anymore as I don't see them on his site. I would be curious if something like this can in increase the change interval way beyond the norm.

I had forgotten about TriboDyn.

FWIW Street price on the websites, 3 gal, is $159.57 for the Amsoil and $234 for TriboDyn both free shipping. ($74.43 more. Not figured: Of course Amsoil is sometimes discounted when purchased from a dealer.)

Edit: @Twisted Steel Performance has it on sale this week and past discussions:

They work good, but it is all oil pressure dependent. This is why that chart becomes critical for anyone thinking about it. A person could determine how well it will help and of the cost is worth it.

Tapping the oil there is perfectly fine. I am planning on tapping my oil pan and running centrifuge when I park at the rig at night and using a 120v pump for it. That will keep the oil alive much longer. The expense of the trybodine is like buying Mac or Snap-on tools- expensive at the beginning and pays for itself long term. If I had an engine with over 200,000 already- nope. But starting out with a newer engine- or like mine a new one- yup.
Imo once you are over 200,000 on a stock 6.5- save pennies and get ready cuz the day is coming. If you build it right and good maintenance, you can refresh it with new bearings, rings and a quick hone at about 200,000 and let it run another 250 after that.

I would so love to freshen up My engine, I’m just afraid to pop the pan. Might be some bad stuff in there.
It does run real nice, smooth and no hickups. 260,000+ miles and no blowby. Guess I’ll run it until something obvious happens. I do not know if this engine is original to the truck. When I changed timing sprockets and chain, the chain had very little stretch in it. I’m thinking the engine is a bit newer than the truck.

oh yes, I too had been looking in Leroys site for that centrifuge. I dont think he advertizes those, might send him a email or a message and see what He has to say about them.

I use an FS2500 bypass oil filter setup. I am interested to hear about the centrifuge.
I have a Centrifuge on one of my 6.5's as Will said the higher the psi the better they should work.

Mine has about 55 psi cold, maybe 25 hot. I clean it out when I change oil. I get a lot of sludge out of it, IDK if it is what the filter missed or if it got it pre filter?

Ummm... Don't forget about socialism. It's already here. But that is not a topic that we want to dig into lest we upset or elected officials for letting the secret out ;)

Well. There goes my oil thread. Lol
Right into the shitter. Derailment!!! 🤪

Derailment in only 7 posts. Impressive :D

Methinks that the friend definitely was victim of a communism byproduct, but not what you think: black market capitalism. Would not surprise me if the person whom refereed the friend to the eatery for the 'awesome sandwich' was a relative of the eatery's owner. Chances are good that the 'awesome sandwich' was just an excuse to get the buddy to go to the eatery for driving up revenue ;)

Ok, back on topic...

About all this synthetic stuff. Meh. I have used it in pretty much everything. Full synthetic, not the blend variety. With it though comes getting analysis to decide on how long to run a batch. Ran it in the Burb just fine. Run it in the dinosaur Ferd 7.3 diesels just fine. Run it in the diesel tractor just fine. Run it in the gassers just fine. Run it in the 2 strokes just fine. Get it? Got it? I'm fine. You'll be fine. Fugedabouttit ;)

Only thing to watch for when switching to synthetic is how late in the engine's life the conversion occurs. I can safely state that an engine with over 200K on it (with indications that the previous owners most likely did *not* use synthetic (and might not have stuck to any fluid change intervals per the service schedules)) will leak like crazy once the synthetic cleans the innards of all the crud that kept the oil in. Definitely not the synthetic's fault, but it gets the bad reputation.
