Missy and that last crusade (Sure)

No doubt, no doubt.

Even here its getting tougher to find the OEM stuff.

I dont think I will even take that clip apart, just clean it well and drop it on the truck in one chunk.

I am thinking that I will remove the old clip and then do the engine R&R and the drop the new clip on the rig.

While the clip is off the doors will be a piece of cake to Replace.

I can redo the hinge pins and bushings too while the doors are off the rig.

The new doors I found are off a Burb so I will need to swap the wiring out some and sort of do a custom thing.

The door panels have the 4 switch window control. I may machine a little spacer/filler and out of aluminum and then install the 2 place switch from the Blazer panel.

The electric mirrors thing is gonna be a "build your own me thinks" I have the wiring diagram but the fellow chopped all the wires off at the end of the rubber flex tube that goes to the pillar. ARRRRRRG

Sooo I will need to sort this all out and run new wires across under the dash for the RH door mirror and the power intertconnect with the fuse panel etc.

Just got done looking over the 91 GM wiring book. "Piece of cake" too easy. All numbered and all color coded and just a great job for a lazy summer afternoon under the "shade tree"

Yep I have front doors and clip from a 'burb too. Has the big row of switches. They will go on the '84 Scotty which has power windows already. I'm sure it's not that hard. I plan to just use the 'burb window and door lock switches. I will just have two extra double throw momentary switches in the door panel for sumthin' else. :smile5:

The amperage rating on the Rear window switch is a lot higher.

At this late date, ya take what parts ya can find.

Getting doors tomorrow from a Burb complete with inner panels too.

Only bum deal is that I have to take all 4 doors. I will sell the two rears on Craigs list and maybe get a goodly part of My $$$$ back.

Going to sell the front clip off the 87 Burb as well as the doors and other parts.

Definately looking forward to getting going on this thing.

Sackly what I was thunkin!:iagree:
Swonderful, smarvellous. Thanx for starting another project and letting us sort of watch over your shoulder.

Too bad the Gummint doesn't adopt the 502 Thunder Sabre as a SWAT standard issue. It'd make yer projects so much easier!):h

UPDATE UPDATE

Saturday I made a great score.

Got a lovely set of doors, complete with interior panels. (Dark Blue)
These came off a 91 Burb.

Electric mirrors and all the nice wood grain trim too. (interior door panels)

Got the Grille from the rig too (GMC Burb) :D

Got some extra door panels too tossed in with the deal.

We were chatting a bit and the fellow (seller) asked me if there was anything else I needed for the project. ?????????/

OOOOOOOOOOOK I mentioned that I needed a complete set of seats as the ones I have were moldy smelling and used up.

I also mentioned that finding Blazer seats was going to be tough.

SUPRISE

Fellow motions me to follow him. We head into the house, and sitting in a small room is a complete set of Bazer seats with seat belts, consol and all the goodies including the sun visors.

These came from a 91 Blazer and are MINT condition, dark blue velour cloth ?? Factory seats.

The whole package for $250 OMG I can hardly believe it.

Soooo the interior is going to be the dark blue.

That was a simple choice made for me. ):h

Carpet, cab roof headliner and a few interior trim pieces and the beast will be complete.

The 84 Blazer uses 8 Bolts per bucket seat to hold them to the floor and the 91 seats use 4 ?????//

I do hope the bolt holes in the floor are useable with the newer seats.

If not we will have to make some mods :D

Not sure just what the rear seat bolt pattern is on the 84

The 89 Blazer I have is the same as the 91 but the 84 ???????/ not sure yet.

If anyone has any info, I would love to hear it.

All for now

Missy

You're like a kid in a candy store and I can't say I blame you... :D

That's awesome. Seems like you have some 'connections'.. Maybe?

Got lucky when I answered a Craigs list ad for a Blazer tailgate about two weeks ago.

The fellow dismantles GM rigs at his house and then sells the parts on Craigs list.

Needless to say, his phone number is in my cell phones directory.

I am very happy to have found these rare items, and to get them for such a great price is even better..

"If ya can't find what you want, Build it" Yessssssssssssssssss

UPDATE ON THE PROJECT

Well the weather has been wretched and so there has been only minimal work done on the 84 Blazer

Got the under dash wiring all sorted out now and marked so it can go right back in once the other work is done.

Today I am going to go and pick up the set of seats I bought for the truck along with a 91 Steering column. The column came from a 91 GMC Jimmy so that will make my little Blazer look just as I want it to.

Placed an ad on Craigs list the other day and had two guys over yesterday to get some stuff. off the old 87 Burb
One fellow wanted all the electric wire harness's for the doors plus a few other things.

The other guy wanted the cardboard headliner the bucket seats a battery tray and a few little knick knacks (Coat hanger hooks)

Still got a buttload of good sheet metal parts and stuff to sell off the old Burb though.

Once the weather improves, the plan is to get the front clip off the 84 Blazer and then yank the engine out.

With the engine out I can get things cleaned up and ready to put things back together.

Not sure what all I am going to do while the rig is down.

With the front clip off the doors will be an easy swap along with the wiring I need to do for the electric mirrors.

Ohhhhh yess, so much fun.

Yesterday I helped the one guy get the wiring out of the doors.

OMG what a real PITA that was.

The front doors were a toughy to get the wiring back through the pillars.

With a little bit of a curled lip a few times though we got it done.

This guy is rebuilding an 82 Crew cab Dually. His truck had manual windows, locks and everything. UHHHG what a job to retrofit all that stuff.

The mess we found under the carpet on the Burb was ugly. Looks like a Hydrobooster had lost a rear seal and really puked some serious oil inside the cabin. The pad under the carpet was totally soaked with oil.

Nasty mess to have to dig through pulling out the wiring that goes back to the rear passenger doors.

This rebuilding rigs is just a real education. Never have dug this deep into the wiring and such. Never needed to.

Keep ya posted

Missy

Got my New seats and the 91 Column home yesterday.

The ignition key was trashed and the tumbler pretty sad too, so a swapped the one from the Blazers Column.

The 91 column has the 4 spoke padded leather steering wheel and the GMC center cap :D

Hope that the seats will bolt onto the 84 seat bases.

The 91 Blazer seats have a different bolt arrangement where they fasten to the floor.

Later

Just got back from the Hardware store and got some fresh extra keys made to fit the new (To this truck) doors and the ignition lock as well as the tailgate.

The original keys were all worn pretty bad and not worth trusting anymore.

Been a long time since I had torn into the top of a column. OMG the amount of crap in there is enough to choke a horse.

By the look of the top snap ring right above the lock plate, I would say that the thing had never been apart before.

Took a little fiddling to get the ring off after I had the plate/spring compressed with the tool.

All back together and everything works fine.

Thinking about replacing the Neutral safety switch, the ignition switch and the dimmer switch while the column is out.

Those are a BEotch to do once things are all buttoned back up.

Been thinking about the Blazer some in the last couple days.

Really think I will take the body off the frame and then clean and paint the frame.

With the little time needed to get the body off, especially since I am going to change the front clip anyway, it seems reasonable.

With the body off I can easily replace the body mount biscuits and tidy up such things as the fuel lines and wiring that is otherwise tough to get to.

My Bobcat machine will lift the body off a Suburban so with the top off, the Blazer should be easy.

Never done a body off restoration, Hmmmmm sounds like fun.

"Whoops", future Missy quote?
Having done that, it's what I said.
Found carp that I wished we hadn't seen. coulda gone another 20 years without fixing, but seeing it forced my hand. nice feeling when it's done, mostly because it's over.

Of course, your's will go better because it's not an IH. From Alaska and Colorado. Stream forder. Shoulda burned it.

Sorrry for the dark cloud.
Time for a Chai.

I know whatcha mean.

If this was a Salt Buggy, I would do just that, BURN IT ):h

The paint still shows on most of the frame and lower body panels and the floor.

These piccy's are for another member to look at.
