Hey guys.. Im looking for information regarding my gmc 6.2 and maybe a 6.5T I found which I might buy to replace the underpowered 6.2.

Cheers!

Greetings Mike from Iowa.

Plenty of stuff to look at here on TTS.

If you can't find it, post a thread or a question here in this one.

Thanks. Still lurking around. Don't know much about the 6.5 t, but its looking like I'd have maybe a 50/50 chance I found a good used one if its still running strong after 150K? Main webs, heads.. All I know is, I'm not paying >$15k for a late model diesel with a quarter of a million miles on it when I can do it for half with the older stuff.

There is a big leap in 'everything' going with the newer common rail stuff of any brand. We've weeded out just about all the qwerks with the 6.2/5.. They're now not such a big mystery.. Plenty capable with a little care and feeding..

x2 a 6.2/6.5 is very capable and has decent power potential that we are starting to unlock. They are cheap (compared to newer trucks) as far as parts and replacement engines go and easy to work on.

What do you mean?
I thought diesel mileage was suffering on the late model trucks with all the emission/green crap. I dont think the price of diesel will ever be lower then gas in the near future.
If I didn't need a long distance tow vehicle (2K per trip). Id stick with gas around town. Maybe four thousand miles a year for me on this new tow vehicle.
That Eco-boost has me more than intrigued. Iv heard of people towing allot more than what I have getting 10 mpg. Then back to 20 unloaded.

What tanman said.. Basic cost of ownership. IDI diesels were always known for good MPG. Easy important fixes and updates also..And yes, the greenie crap is killing the potential of alot of things.

added; the 'price of admission' is starting to moderate a little if a guy wanted to step into a dmax. But the parts are still 'up there' comparatively. So does it really justify the big leap in 'admission' if all you're doing is towing a few thousand pounds every now and then.

But hey, it's your dollar. :D

Welcome to The Truck Stop Mike!
:welcome2: Best place to find info on your 6.x diesel anywhere.

Are you around the quad cities?

Agreed. Iv got money. But I'm not buying into this diesel craze. Its bait and switch no less.

I need something which can pull 8000# at 80 mph on the plains of kansas with a head wind and maintain 40 on mountain passes. I think a 6.5t might come close to that.

Better go Dmax.

The craze is not a craze when you're in the know.. ;)

What are you referring to, bait and switch?

When the craze began. Diesel was lower cost. Now that everyone and their mother want a diesel.. The price for fuel jumps yet truck prices hold.

My buddy who is "in the know" also told me Dmax and protested loudly when I asked him about the 6.5t Im looking at.

A 6.5T wont tow 8000# at 80?

It will tow that just takes a couple mods and the truck will do that with ease. TURBO is one of the must have mods after exhaust and gauges. You might be interested in some cooling mods too but the turbo helps run cooler

Drive some trucks, see which one you like. See if you can pull a trailer with some weight. I gotta admit, the dmax trucks do pull really well.
