I climb into the back of my truck because I have a topper, and the protector I have has ridges on it that hurt my knees. I'm looking for something with a little cush...a rubber pad? Some kind of backed carpet that can handle weather? I have no troubles cutting, mounting...whatever. Just looking for some good material. Even some kind of dense foam would be good. Changing it out once a year from damage is doable.

I guess nobody saw this thread...but anyways...I found an exercise mat with a decent skin on both sides to try. Nice and dense so it'll feel good on the knees, but I'm not dragging much over it without a temp cover.
Oh well - It'll be worth changing it out again for what I gain.

Shoot, I missed this, sorry Ozzie. I've got a 1/2" thick rubber mat made from recycled tires. Bought it at Les Schwab. It's very similar to the thick livestock mats...just in the shape of my bed floor.

the rubber mats will not help! I have one andit does no good but trap crap underneath it. Maybe a air mattress would help you out! ):h

I was thinking one of those athletic exercsize mats too. Only about 1/2" thick but very comfortable on the knees.

I think Summit racing sells something like a mudflap for the tail gates..

A follow up...that mat I got is really nice! I put my knees on it and it feels good. Winter is around the corner so I can't finish it properly, but I was thinking some door edge material for the top of the tailgate.
Another advantage to this is it seals my tailgate up (I cut it to do this)...with a topper you would appreciate this as the dust from dirt roads comes in around the tailgate. I had added weatherstripping to seal it, but now it'll stay clean inside.

You could always get you some knee pads. You could make them the next hot fashion trend. LOL! Just don't wear them to the bar, someone may get the wrong idea about your intentions.

LOL...well apparently you know more about this that I do...I'm not much into fashion. I did stay at a Holiday Inn once though...

They use to make a seal for the tailgate. I have not had a topper in a few years so I am unsure it they still do.
