I read most of this report, and I'm conflicted with it. In my experience, anybody who has to pat themselves on there back this much and talk down about respected sites has an agenda behind it. Every section starts off with 3 paragraphs of him patting himself on the back about how great he is, and many had another paragraph or 2 about how much better he was than so and so. And several of his oil analisys results didn't even match up to the manufacturers posted contents. Particuliarly his test results of the revised 15w40 rotella, his results go dead against Shell's own press releases about the contents of it. There was a couple others I seen that didn't match up with the manufacturer either. And I've heard of bitog thtough several sources as well as some of the others that he made a point to say shouldn't be trusted.

Pretty entertaining read (No seriously I really enjoyed it) and a lot of time wasted on 'talking down' his detractors. Where is my tin foil hat? Credit is due to looking at a single factor and only a single factor.

One of the best rated oil by his single testing method Mobil 1 is exhibit A: Toasted camshaft. :facepalm: WTF, we ruined a camshaft (his standard of failure) following said site best of the best oil? Nevermind 1/4 million miles of towing scrapmetal loads well on the north side of sane in AZ (121 degrees F outside extreme temps) on grades that make a 1/4 drag strip racing look like a walk in the park. Nevermind the totally destroyed engine with cracked heads and cracked block. Perhaps the marketing also played a part in the carnage as Mobil 1 was supposed to be a once a year oil change, right?

Looking at his own data and then discarding it... No matter how small of a difference the temperature that the oil can take matters esp. when you are at the limits of oil failure. It's an extra cushion you may never need until the moment you do. Not one single mention of piston scuffing that diesel engine owners experience when they have reached the limits of what their oil can take.

Enough Oil Sludge problems are still around on modern gas engines including timing chain wear problems that caused GM to alter their oil life monitor. Oil Sludge due to the temperature limits of oil are well known. Just saying.

Maybe I should send him a sample of tar, err, engine oil I have ruined. :D

No. We should worry about something far more important than the oil and that's filters that can go the distance. Air filters to keep the dirt out and oil filters that actually perform better than a t-shirt stuffed into a can.

Lets just say his credentials and results have been call "questionable" by more than a few certified experts in the field. Did a search, and turns out he has been discredited more than a few times now. He actually reminds me a bit of old steaksauce.

Here's what Ol Smokey Yunick had to say about synthetic oil after he had used it a few times and saw the results... "I don't know what they charge for that stuff, but they ought to, at least, double it".
As for this guy's blog... I couldn't get past his BS - I'm an engineer so you should worship my All encompassing knowledge... Well I had a career of pretty near the same credentials and I know quite a lot about the same things but unless you are an engineer in both automotive mechanical AND automotive chemical with years of hands on lab and real world experience, you are just giving your OPINION. So I didn't bother to read any farther...
