Lift pump not working and truck keeps stalling

Well guys I guess I was premature in hoping that my problem was solved. Made it to work with a couple of brief hiccups but the drive home was a nightmare. Quit 7 times, took me 2 hrs to do a 20 min drive. Seems that when it stalls I can see air bubbles through the clear line on the return. They only appear a few seconds after the truck stalls and seem to be flowing back toward the IP. Can anybody tell me what and where I should be looking for an issue. Thanks in advance for any further help you guys can offer

When was the last time you removed/replaced the fuel filter? Do you have the new style where it doesn't use the separate ring to secure the filter down or the original where it still uses the ring? I was having the same problem as you because I didn't tighten down the fuel filter enough which allowed air into the system.

Just replaced it last week which I thought solved my problem. Still have the original with the tightening ring. Double checked to make sure it's tight and seems to be secure.

Please don't take this as an insult but did you make sure that it was keyed properly? They only go in one way and the notches need to line up. I also can't remember if there should be an o ring to help seal things up...

I would check the tightness of the fuel line fittings up stream of the fuel filter. A small o ring could have popped off the end of one of those lines or may just need a little more tightening to squish the O ring more. You should have fittings to tighten at the fuel sending unit and both ends of the lift pump and they should all have small o rings at the ends of those lines.

Yes I did read ur post over and over, the main reason I changed the filter was to look for symptoms and haven't found anything wrong except filter tightening ring seemed a bit loose. Doesn't seem to be any fuel leaks from the line that I can find. Going to check all the connections around the filter now

Sucky time. If you can't find the leak sucking in air, you are going to have to check each connection. If you have not replaced all the rubber lines in the truck yet, doing so will guarantee all those connections are good and the hoses aren't seeping. Any hose you replace btw use sae 30r9 hose.

Thanks Will L. I am at a lose now, I checked and tightened all the fuel connections and still no change. Guess I'll have to start replacing all of them to eliminate the chance of air being the prob. Kinda strange how it acts, when cold it seems to run for about 15 min or so and restarts no prob, the warmer the engine gets the shorter the run time and the harder it gets to restart. Also doesn't act any different with or without the lift pump running. Am I still looking at air being the prob I wonder? A bit strange that this prob only started after I switched out the tranny, did I disturb something during the switch that's causing my grief. Already put new grounds on to eliminate that prob and cleaned the ones I didn't replace. ANYBODY WITH ANY OTHER IDEAS OR KNOWLEDGE TO SHARE WOULD BE GREAT.

About the only thing I haven't got to yet. Prob be a good idea to pull that out and check it. I did remove the box and check the lines at the top of the tank, just didn't pull out the pick up assembly yet

Remove the fuel cap:), I'm not sure how others have done it but I would then remove the inlet line to the LP and blow low pressure air into the line. This will either partially clean the sock or blow it off. See how it runs after this.

Thanks JMJ. Seems to be the brand of choice on here.

A lot of parts with the word sensor or sender or thermostat or anything that has some sort of measurement and control need to be ACDelco.

For injectors and GPs, Bosch is the preferred choice.
Although, ACDelco GPs come in close 2nd.
GPs is Glow Plugs.

If you need a CDR, any brand will do.

There is no ACDelco tires as far as I know.

For brakes, some people have had luck with good brand that deals with brakes like Raybestos, etc.
