LBZ Dmax thermostat

Tanner, I just replaced mine earlier this year with the AC Delco 180 and 185 ones. I also replaced the temperature sensing unit and all is well. I noticed I was just a bit low in temp but my milage was taking a 3-4 mpg hit. So after discussing with a friend I replaced.

Yes it did. I was amazed that a little thing like that would affect the mileage so much. My friend, who is beyond a Caterpillar Diesel Tech, told me all of that and I said, why not as he hadn't ever been wrong before. I ordered a FASS Titanium 150 for my truck and should get it installed in the next week and will see what that affects the truck.

Pretty well set on getting the tstat and sensor changed now. My truck only got the 155 this morning.

How much coolant did it take?

I just drained out a quart or so just to get the level below the thermostats and the sensor. Make sure you open the system air bleed port so it will drain. I just used the coolant I drained over pouring it through a piece of cheese cloth to filter out any goobers that happened to get in it.

It will be very evident and hard to put the wrong thermostat in the wrong hole. They did a great job of thinking that out.

Thanks for the info Barry. :) Very interesting.

I have been running my front cover for a while now. Maybe that helps keep the engine running at summer temps, and maybe it helps the fuel mileage a little.

I bought my truck used and it didn't have the cover. I need to install one on it and my Jetta TDI also. I had one on my 98 6.5 and it really helped in the winter.

That really hurts your motor's efficiency. You will really notice a difference when you get the new thermostat and temp. sensor installed.

is hayden 2850 appropriate for the LBZ? Also what is the sensor part #? I finally broke down and am going to buy some parts, the local dealer doesn't even stock the parts.

Yep 2850 HAYDEN fan clutch, and the CTS is 15326386 or AC DELCO 213928. It is a VERY common sensor, just don't use an aftermarket one as they are ALWAYS off.

I asked for the sensor and both T Stats, said they wouldn't have them until Friday at the soonest for 153.xx before tax. I just ordered the fan clutch, Rad Cap, sensor, and both T Stats for just under $175 using the code. I feel like a bargain shopper!

Tanner, I have been trying to keep up. Did you finally oreder from Rock Auto? and what code? for an additional discount?

Oh, and Happy new Year!!

The TTS code is out of date (or at least the one I found). I used a code off of GMT 400 good through 1/15/14. Yes I did order all the parts plus a fan clutch and over flow cap, All AC Delco except the hayden clutch.

Santa came today, better late than never.

I also got the sensor and overflow cap, they came in ac delco boxes. The tstats came in boxes that read made in Japan w/ a part #, not impressed.
