K1500 front rotor / disc replacement - 8 lug, 4x4 can't get the hub off

I ended up sharpening a couple of screwdrivers and driving them in between the hub and dust shield on the wifes burb 1/2 ton but was able to use the big pry bar on the 3/4 ton.

I used an axe head and a BFH to pop off the hub on an older ford 250 one time. That was one hell of an operation. I guess whatever does the job!

If my mind severs me right I put some heat on it and put two large screw drivers in the air holes on the rotor to helppull it of & kept it in 4x4 so when you reinstall the shafts not going to move to far.

so the rotor is somewhat press fitted onto the hub assembly? When I changed out the rotors on my '05 I had zero issues, they just slid right off. Is this something they went away from with the newer trucks or am I missing something here?

just trying to enhance my knowledge :D

oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh ya now i remeber must have been having a brain fart i cant believe i forgot about those 4 stupid bolts in the hub that are a PITA to get at to hit with a hamer good enough to get the thing loose and by the time you've hit them enough to get the hub off you cant get a wrench on them any more! had to clean the musromed parts up at the bench grinder

the 6 lug 1/2 tons slide off the 8 lugs are held on by the wheel studs

A hammer may behave different):h.
Next time use an old or impact socket on these bolt heads if you gonna beat the crap outa them:wink1:

The bearing assembly split. I can see my bearing & race. And they aren't together. The race stayed with the truck.
I am guessing that the bearing assembly is not servicable? That you have to buy a whole new bearing assembly?
Does anybody have one to sell? Or know of the best place to buy one?

Thats often what happens when one tries to beat the rotor loose.
Clean it out, inspect the bearings,if it looks good with no pitting, fill with grease and press it back together.Be carefull of the seals. No harm done, i done it before

I'll give it a try.
We had the slide hammer on the rotor and just kept wacking away.
We had a heck of a time pulling the race out. Used the same method. The race came out just as hard or harder as the rotor, bearing & front part of the bearing housing.

NO Never-seezing sons-o-beeches. It'll be neverseezed this time.

Nappa $190 for the cheap version, $314 for the expensive/good part, $470 for the rotor & bearing assembly with studs installed from the dealer. There's a guy nearby that has something new in the box he wants $200 for. If it's the cheap Nappa he's out of line. I'll have to see what he has.
